Momo lost his dewclaw... It's 10:35pm here & I think we can wait til tomorrow morning to go to the vet. He kept licking his paw & I checked it & it was bleeding. He lost his whole dewclaw. I cleaned it w/hydrogen peroxide & put Clotisol on it to stop the bleeding & he screamed in pain.:( Was I not supposed to put that on? I thought it would be better than styptic powder. I know he's in pain, so I gave him some torb-val. He's all bandaged up & sleeping now. I'll be taking him to the vet tomorrow. It's nothing serious, but please say a little prayer for my little guy please...& for him not to get into any more trouble. I almost fainted when I saw all that blood...:fainted: It's a good thing we have one of Bo's softee collars...I got it 'just in case' & whadya know. |
Oh Jenny, I'm sorry Momo is such a way. I will definitely keep him in my prayers. I'm glad that the collar is coming in handy for you guy. :) Let us know how he does at the vets. :( Hugs, Bo |
Aww, poor baby! I hope he's okay, but it sounds like you're a very good Yorkie nurse :) |
aww poor Momo, it sounds like you doing great in taking care of him, You don't have time to faint:). I will say a extra prayer for him. Good luck at the vet. |
OMGoodness, poor Momo!! Yes Jenny, it does sound like you tended to Momo just perfectly! Keeping Momo and you both in our thoughts and prayers. Will look back tomorrow for an update. I hope you are both able to get good sleep. Huggs |
Ouch....poor baby! You're taking good care of him though, Jenny. I would imagine anything you put on that to stop bleeding would sting even styptic powder. Hugs from us Momo, hope you're all better soon! |
Oh my gosh, I know how you feel. My Maddy lost his nail on Sunday. There was so much blood! Poor little guy, I felt so bad. He was hurting for maybe a day or so, but he's back to his normal self now. When I took him to the vet, he told me to put styptic powder on it to control the bleeding and put a bootie over it to protect it. I bought him a little pair of booties, but they sucked(he wouldn't keep them on), so I bought a pair of baby socks(newborn) and taped it on. It kept his foot clean and dry, and he didn't seem to mind it. |
You can also use flour to stop bleeding, and it doesn't hurt. Just pack it around the nail and apply light pressure till the bleeding stops. Prayers to your little guy... |
Broken dew claws do hurt. Poor guy. They also can get infected. Hope all goes well at the vet today. Will look for an update! |
Oh no! I worry about that with Gizmo. When he was a pup, the vet must have missed one of his dewclaws and I always worry about it. :( Give him gentle hugs from us. |
Poor Momo:( I hope all goes well at the vets, hugs to Momo. |
Aw, poor Momo! Jackson & I are thinking of you today little guy! ;) |
Thank You everyone for the well wishes & prayers. Momo is doing ok, playing, running around. He is trying to lick the bandages, so I'm keeping an eye on him. He's on my lap right now... Our vet appt is at 10:30 this morn. Will update when we get back. Momo sends everyone kisses! |
Update 1 Attachment(s) We got back from the vet not too long ago. They cleaned out the wound & gave him an injection of anti-biotics & Rimadyl for the pain. Our vet said the whole nail came off & it looks like it will grow back, but weird. Later on, we have to see if he needs to have surgery to take the bone out or not, depending on how the nail grows. Momo is on my lap knocked out. I gave him some more torb-val for the pain. Doc said to give it to him til tomorrow. They put a neon green bandage on him...looks like he's wearing little booties. Attachment 305808 Hi eberybowdy...Tank Yew for pwaying for me & gibbing me well wish bones. We gonna go back tomorrow to take da shoe off.
