My vet suggested I remove my yorkies dew claws on his back paws as they were never done when he was a puppy. He will laser remove them. I am just waiting on the update to see if he's received his laser equipment yet.

Thank You all for the kind & sweet get well wishes. I didn't give Momo any torb-val last night & I woke up w/him shivering this morning. I gave him some meds & called our vet. He said it could be from pain:(, that I can give the meds 3 x's a day if needed. I feel bad for not giving it to him last night...just didn't like the thought of him knocked out & his rear legs shaking. We go in later to have his bandages removed. Then that's where Bo's softee collar will come in really handy. We're very lucky to have our vet only couple of mins away & they're open 7 days a week.

Thank You. I heard that it's very painful to do (operation) & our vet recommends it only if it poses a problem. I think it's very important for breeders to have the dewclaws removed at the same time they do tail docking.
It was time for Momo's nail trim & this happened...I'll have to be more attentive to their grooming schedule. Everybody else got nail trimmings right away lol.

I hope Momo heals quickly!!! And after reading this thread, I am glad the breeder had T-Bones done when she did his tail!!!!:aimeeyork

Thank You for continued good wishes for Momo...we surely do need it! Now he's got something going on w/his paw pad on the same injured paw. It's swollen & he keeps trying to lick it & won't let me go near it. So, we're going in later today to the vet...again.:rolleyes::)
He's been wearing the softee collar from Bo (Mom to Hot Rod). It's amazing, I wouldn't know what to do w/out it!
Thanks Deb. I have no idea how it happened & I never found the nail. I'm thinking it got snagged on the carpet & Momo ate the nail lol he eats anything & everything. I noticed him licking his paw & when I tell him to stop, he usu does, but he kept doing it. I looked at it & there was blood. Lesson learned here, I'm def not gonna slack on keeping their nails trimmed.

How is Momo feeling? Hope that he's doing better. I am terrible about nails. I try to do them but they both pitch a fit and you would think I am cutting Maggie's little arms off!! I have taken them to vet to get them done and you can hear Maggie all the way in the back!

The last time I did Hot Rod's, the attachment to the hair dryer fell on the floor just as I was cutting and he moved so I cut too far down on the nail and there was a yelp and blood everywhere. He wouldn't let me put the stypic powder on and I was getting more bloody by the moment. Thank goodness I finally got enough on and the bleeding finally stopped. and wouldn't you know it, after that is when hubby walked in the door from work! Needless to say I am scared to do their nails now.

Actually, if I remember right.... a guy at a pet store once told me that cornmeal works better than flour. I had called them to ask if they had syptic powder but they were about to close for the day. I told him that I had heard flour works well and he told me about using cornmeal instead. I have to add that I am pretty sure that's what he said... it's been a while since that happened. Has anyone else heard that??

Also... I'm glad Tatum doesn't have her dewclaws but I don't even clip her nails anymore. She used to let me when she was real little and nothing traumatic happened but all of a sudden she wouldn't let me anymore. It's just not worth the struggle. I'm afraid I'm going to hurt her with all the writhing around. The above mentioned story happened the last time we struggled and one got cut too short. Ever since then we just run to the vet and either the vet or the tech clips them in about 10 seconds.... with NO squirming on her part. Go figure.

I'm so sorry Momo got hurt, I've read about this happening several times, and I agree with you that breeders should do this early, even those that are against tail docking should remove the dewclaws, but the trend seems to be to go natural for some. I hope we can encourage breeders to continue to remove the dewclaws.

Thank You Bo...your softee collar is a life saver! Momo has some bacterial infection going on (same paw) & he was obsessively licking it on & off for awhile. I was so caught up on his dewclaw that it totally slipped my mind. Our vet prescribed some spray & an anti-inflammatory shot on his paw pad. It was raw & swollen:(, I feel like such a bad mommy. He also felt bad bc he didn't notice it when we went in for the dewclaw, so he didn't charge us for the exam. Now it's healing up real well & getting scabby. I don't know what I would've done w/out the softee collar! I had to wash it last night & temporarily put the plastic one & he was so unhappy. Didn't even move, wanted me to carry him around, whimpering. As soon as it came out of the dryer, I put the softee on him & he was happy. He can see where he's going & he doesn't bump into things & he can sleep w/it on.

I have a hell of a time trimming the boys' nails too. I have to wrap them up in a towel & maybe trim 1 or 2 nails & give them a break bc they act like I'm going to kill them lol. That's why I've been putting it off, but no more! I'll have to be extra careful not to cut their quick, or I'll have to start all over.:rolleyes:

Wow, poor Momo is just having a time lately. Poor baby about the infection. :( Glad that it's getting better. We'll be sending big hugs and kisses for a speedy recovery. "Now, Momo, you are going to drive mama nuts if you don't get better!" Hugs.

No wonder so many of us on YT are obsessive about our babies. So many little (and big) things to happen to them... So fast we don't even realize they have gotten hurt.
When something happens to my babies, I get a little jolt of what feels like electricity in the pit of my stomach.:( Poor mom too.
