Yorkie Puppy Hi I was just trying to do some research on our puppy. He is 4 weeks old today. We took him to the vet Wednesday because we recently noticed that when he was breathing, on his left side you could see something popping out. The vet took xrays and told us that he has about a cm gap between his 9th and 10th rib with no muscle between the 9th and 10th rib. She told us that it was his lung that we were seeing bump in and out when he breathes. Does anyone know what kindof survival rate he might have or what kind of problems this might cause later on if he survives. He is eating well (we are bottle feeding) and he is playful. He weighs 9 ounces. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! |
I am so sorry you little one is having problems. I pray he will be okay. Did the vet think it was a birth defect or an injury? What advice did the vet give for treatment? |
The vet said it was probably a birth defect. There were two puppies in the litter. The other puppy is doing great - he's HUGE and very very cute! But our little man Murphy has been struggling. The vet said if he can get to a size big enough, they may be able to do surgery to tie sometype of wire around the ribs to pull them closer and maybe put sometype of mesh or something to serve as a muscle between the ribs. Thank you for your kind words and prayers, they are greatly appreciated! |

I forgot to add, :welcome4:Welcome to Yorkie Talk. You will love it here. |
:animal-pa I did foster a rescue toy poople many years ago with a similiar problem. Charlie, had a rib removed because it had been bed shattered. At the time he had surgery they didn't feel he was ready for a corrective measure. He also had several other more serious issues. When he began to heal he was so ready to play. for about 3 months I would wrap him in an ace bandage and t-shirt to keep the fragile area protected. Best of luck to you both!! |
