Best wishes coming Dudley's way for a safe surgery and complete recovery. |
Thanks for updating us. I'm glad he's finally getting that tooth out. He is going to feel much better! |
Precious Dudley - Tons of good thoughts going your way... I know how scary it can be. Will be looking for updates :) |
That's great. He will feel so much better. I will keep him in my prayers for a safe procedure. |
that is good news he will be a pup again :) i am sure he will do fine with anesthesia but it is always scary for us moms :) |
LA LALALALALALALA!!! Waiting for phone to ring from the vet. Why does this day seem to drag??????????????:rolleyes: On a side note: While at vet this morning, we discussed starting Dudley on 'flea pill" begins w/ C:rolleyes:, I've seen a few post in the past w/ other's furbabies on it, WE DONT have a flea issue (at least i think:cool:), except i have seen a few on him in the past couple weeks abd had given him a bath like every 3 days...I haven't seen any on him since last bath, SUNDAY....is this okay to start or what till i see more? Is it a montly pill, weekly, i just don't know how i feel about this??? |
Your vet was probably talking about Capstar. It's a one time pill that will kill all the fleas on him for about 24 hours. It's usually used if a dog has an infestation in combination with a topical preventative. Seeing a few fleas in the past few weeks probably means you do have a flea issue. Adult fleas actually spend very little time on the dog itself. They multiply so quickly, a few fleas can mean thousands in a very short time. Their eggs hatch in your carpet and in no time you can have an infestation. Did your vet discuss starting him on a preventative? I prefer Advantage, but there are many options out there. A preventative will kill any adult fleas and also kill larvae and eggs as they hatch. Advantage or Frontline are applied monthly. |
Ladymom, First i want to say, U ROCK!! I've enjoyed so much reading alot of your post, very informative, and the cold, hard facts! Yes, that pill is it, so let me get this, it only works for 24hrs??? :eek:If someone has an infestion, administers the drug, do they have to give it again and is this something safe? He did mention the Front/Adv, however, I've known 3 people who's dogs had seizure because it?? I'm just a lil freaked, because of THEIR experience, i know every case is different, but, I'm a lil overprotected, parinod, you could say :p PS Still no call yet, gonna call in a sec  |
To add to the flea issue, its not a infestion that we have...I haven't seen any since Sunday, never had a flew problem, and had my last Yorkie for 13 yrs witout any issues...He is the only dog, no other anilmals, and our yard is treated...so I'm just concerned about what to do inour case??? |
 Vet just called to say they haven't gotten to Dudley as of now (12:24) i dropped him off at (845a.m.), he did tell me he had 2 surgeries, one being a dental before Dudley...well some hose broke :(on the dental machine they were using on the pup before Dudley. So they aren't going to get to him today:eek::mad::mad: I have been stressing since y-day, lost sleep last night and on edge today.....to hear this????? OMG:eek::eek: He wasn't put under, so this is a relief, so i can go get him and "carry" on till Mon or Tue, not sure which day, he's supposed to call me tomorrow to confirm Mon is they get the machine fixed today or tomorrow...I NEED A DRINK!!!!! |

Usually a dog who has a seizure after a flea treatment has a low seizure threshold. My Lady has epilepsy and the recommended flea preventative for dogs prone to seizures is Frontline. I used it for years until the fleas in our area built up a resistance to it. I switched to Advantage a few years ago and haven't had any problems. I am very careful to space out her heartworm treatment and flea preventative, though, since both are pesticides. I do one on the 1st of every month, then the other on the 15th. |

Maybe the flea pill is Capstar but I was given Comfortis by my vet for Zoey. It is a monthly pill and it is for dogs 5-10 lbs so he has me give her 1/2 a pill once a month. This half makes the cost considerably less (tho I can not remember exactly what I paid). She has tolerated it well although you need to give it to her with a meal. So no idea, but thought I would throw it out there. ALSO, I have not heard any comments about it positive or negative so I can't give any testimony other than her tolerance over the last few months. Good luck and keep us posted! Huggs |
