One eye is blood shot at the top of eyeball...I'm worried I came home today and noticed that one of Ralphie's eyes (like on top of his pupil) is really red....His whole eye is not red....I can only see it if let's say he looks to the side with his eyes. I'm worried and will be taking him to the vet in the morning.....has anyone had this before? Any suggetions on what it might be. He did go for a longer walk today....if that makes any difference. |
Is his hair long? Maybe a piece got into his eye and is irritated. Does it seem to be bothering him? Good luck at the vet tomorrow. |
i would have it checked out as eyes are nothing to mess with |
If you have any antibiotic opthalmic ointment without steroids I'd apply that, get some to keep on hand when you're at the vets tomorrow. It could be irritated from a foreign body or a rub on the rug or furniture. I routinely clean my pups eyes and if they're the least bit irritated I apply the ointment until it clears. Mine were in a fight recently and one sustained a tiny bite wound to the inside of his lower lid. The vet missed it, but there was puss looking discharge the next day and when I applied the ointment I found it. It healed very quickly and I did have the vet check it on our recheck visit. The ab opthalmic ointment will sooth and coat the eye and help prevent swelling so the pup will be less likely to be scratching/rubbing the area possibly causing more damage, until you get to the vet. If you see a forein body, you may be able to remove it by very gently dragging a q-tip along the edges of the eyelid... no pressure applied at all. Only use products made for the eyes. Anything else is way too strong and will cause damage. Never use Visine, only Natural tears or sterile saline solution for rinsing and cleaning the eye area. |

Do you get it from your vet or is there an ointment you could buy at the drug store? Sometimes my dogs get red eyes like that too and I usually just keep it clean for them and it clears up within a day or so. |
I pray you little furbaby will be alright. |
Sugar once has this sign, it was just because she was very tired and sleepy, but she couldn't sleep because my neighbour has some visitors. Her eyes turned back Ok after she slept for hours. It might be the sign of pressure or simply tired. Maybe you can see how he's doing tomorrow morning before meeting the vet :) |
Update Ralphie's eye was bloodshot due to him hitting himself on his eye. I think it may have been when he went underneath our bed...and banged his head/eye under there. =( The doc said that it should heal on it own...and to keep an eye on it. If it turned more red...or his eye began to shut.....then to come back in. Poor Baby! He runs around so quickly sometime that he's not paying attention and bumps himself sometimes.....I'm scared to let him in the bedroom anymore unless it's to go to sleep! |
