Itchy My Yorkie has been scratching his neck for 2 weeks...it just started out of nowhere. There are no sores, no redness, no bumps...nothing....he just scratches. I then read that sometimes his food could cause skin irriations, so I stopped feeding him Beneful and bought him Nature's Recipe. Now he won't eat it unless he absolutely has too. I mix dry and wet and he can't stand it. So what food should I be giving him and do you think that will stop the unruly scratching? I had him on Purino Pro Plan, then went to Beneful and then Nature's Recipe. I hope someone can assist me. Thanks much. |
how old is your yorkie and when did this itching start? Allergy diets are natural balance venison and sweet potato and do that for 12 weeks to make sure not a food allergy but itching can be alot of other things not just food so need some more info |
I had one that was allergic to the plastic bowl I was using. He did have a rash, though. Are you sure it is his neck? Could it be an ear infection? |
Yes, I am sure it isn't an ear infection...it is the neck. And he eats out of a metal bowl and sometimes a ceramic plate. I changed his food, but I may have to change it again. If it doesn't stop soon, I will take him to the vet to get checked. He does it sporadically throughout the day. |

ok just read the foods - so if your dog is exhibiting food allergy the best foods are natural balance venison and sweet potato for 12 weeks feed this and see if your dog does better the other food is fish and sweet potato or duck and potato but i would go with the venison - feed nothing else only that food no treats - use the kibble as treats - all of the foods you listed are not great quality foods :( |
Nature's Recipe is not a bad food imo. I use it and my pups do very well on it. |

Bottom line, vet visit is needed. |

That is actually a good start. If he has itching after the above, I would suggest a vet. |

Actually, that is a good start. Use one of those foods and see if it improves. If not, definitely check with a vet. |
