9 week old puppy has a soft bubble under her skin. What is it? Zowei has a soft, squishy, bubble under her skin. I almost want to smash it like a zit, but I don't know what it is. It doesn't seem to hurt her. What do you think it is and is it serious? |
It would be just guessing w/o seeing the bump. Where is it located, how big is it (like in comparison to a pencil eraser), can you actually see it, or just feel it? |
The bump is located on her right side between her tummy and thigh. It feels like a small gel cap that moves around a little when I feel it. It is not like a hernia, it definitely between her skin and stomach muscles. I don't think it has gotten bigger. I wonder if a hot towel would help or does she need to she a Vet? Her breeder called it a "shunt". She had a broken ancient and maybe she meant something else. |
Has she been to the vet to rule out a hernia? Thats what it sounds like to me. I am fairly new to the dog world (as an owner) but use to be a vet tech... |

Talk to your breeder again, bc I don't believe you can actually feel a "shunt", especially the type of shunt (liver) associated with yorkies. Even after talking to your breeder, have your girl checked by a vet. Your breeder doesn't sound very knowledgeable about yorkies, if she were she wouldn't have let pups go until 12 weeks. |
If it is in her groan area then it probably is a inguinal hernia. It is not that uncommon in young puppies and often they will outgrow it. If it is a hernia and requires surgery the vet most likely would wait until she is ready to be spayed. |
Please take her to the vet to find out! My baby Zoey had a small tumor one that kept getting bigger, the vets acted like it was not a big deal. That eventually turned into cancer. She then had to have her leg amputated. Please read my threads about it. I would not wait a second before taking her to the vet. |
I don't have any information about it but I hope it is nothing serious. Welcome to YT and congrats on you baby. :) |
Can you post a picture? By your description it sounds like a hernia... but if you can post a nice picture... Maybe others can see and know ! That would not substitute a vet visit. XOXO |

Just checking in to see if you got the bump checked out... hope all is well |
This morning what ever it was, seems to be almost gone. Maybe it was a tissue (fat) bubble. Even when I would put pressure on it, she didn't mind, so I knew it wasn't infected or something too serious. Thank you for all your help. |
I am thinking its a hernia. They can feel like they are almost gone and then they pop up again. And, they can go away with age. If it doesnt they can always remove it when she is spayed. But, good luck. Hopefully it is nothing. |
