Scruffs Ate a CET HEXtra Chew, Started Yelping
 
He was near the end of it, and he started yelping like he was in pain. I thought maybe he was choking so I looked in his mouth to try and get it out, but I didn't see anything. I'm thinking maybe he swallowed a piece too big? I am going to have to be more careful next time. I can't let him have the end bits. He did the same yelp that he does if he runs into walls (this is uncommon), gets knocked over by a dog (more like tapped), or if I'm clipping his nails. I'm not sure what to think since he is such a baby. I'm hoping that if he did eat a piece too big it will pass through.

I guess I just wait to see if he is pooping, eating, drinking, etc, and if he stops vet ASAP? I hope he is ok. He might have just done something to himself and started whining, since he does that every once in a while. He is a big baby like I said before. Oh, and he whined for maybe 5-7 seconds (maybe shorter and it just seemed longer?), then just stopped all together. I put him on his back since I was looking in his mouth and he just laid there like nothing happened.

I don't use the CET Hextras, but have been using the others for years. I am watchful and make sure when they get a bit soggy and small, I take them away. He'll be fine.......they do digest easily, so not to worry.

I saw they were made out of Beefhide, isn't that raw hide? I thought that was non digestible, but correct me if I am wrong. Thanks for the response. By the way, I love the toothpaste. I think you recommended it. It smells soooo good!! Now only if Scruffs thought the same way...

Yes, but they are processed in a manner that takes out the bacteria.......

The toothbrushing takes time......I begin introducing my pups at 8 weeks of age to the brushing process, putting a bit on my finger and allowing them to lick it, then gently inserting my finger into their mouth. Once they've got that down I add the rubber finger brush and start the brushing motions. After they get use to that, then I introduce them to the toothbrush....I've used the the toothpaste to train my show dogs to allow the judge look into their mouths.....
