UTI questions I put this in the off topic forum but didn't get any response so I thought I would try here even though it is about my foster pom. Ever since her spay about 12 days ago I noticed she peed a little more often and when I mentioned it to the shelter they said it was not uncommon after a spay. Well today she started going 3-4 times every 30 minutes and sometimes there is drops of blood in it. I took a sample to the shelter and they are sending it out to the lab and started her on Claivimox 2 times a day. I had a yorkie once with a UTI but she didn't go near as much as this one. Has any one experienced this frequent of urination with a UTI? Also how long does it take for the antibiotic to help? Can I put a diaper on her in the mean time? Can i get them at Petsmart? Any help is appreciated! Thanks |
Soph had a UTI a few months back. I didn't notice her going more often because she goes frequently when we're home anyway, her way of getting more treats. Sprinkle a little and get a cookie from me, sprinkle a little on a different potty pad and get a cookie from papa. She's got us well trained:rolleyes:. Vet put her on Clavamox and it had her straightened up in just a couple of days. We did the whole 10 days just to make sure, but by the third day she was back to normal, or as "normal" as she gets. |
Thanks so much for your helpful reply. |
My little yorkie had a UTI starting at 11:30 at night and he was peeing every couple of minutes..Its just like when we get an UTI..You want to pee all the time..I had taken him to the doctor and they put him on a IV because of all the fluids he was loosing gonig to the bathroom..Keep an eye on him..He should be fine and you started the anitbotic so your puppy will be ok...I would not crate him right now!!! I was told not too when it happened...have a wee wee pad ready to go!!! |
Yes I have expierenced it with my jack-a-poo Daisy. She had a uti once and she licked herself a lot and I would have to take her out every 30 min sometimes every 15 and she would squat and walk 10 ft squat again. After she went on her antibiotic within 24 hrs she was doing so much better. I felt so bad for her bc she was so uncomfortable. I myself have never had a UTI but people tell me it is awful bc you constantly feel like you have to pee and never feel relieved. So I hope she feels better soon. Good Luck |
