stool issue
 
Romeo had a tumor in his anal area removed last MArch. He has been fine since the surgery. He is now having very small and skinny stool. I am worried. I emptied his anal glands so I don't think that is the issue. He is also a little tired. He still has a healthy appetite and is eating his kibble.

I am not sure what to do?

Momo gets those sometimes...& normal ones most of the time. I too want to know what causes that. He's had surgery to remove a queen palm tree seed from his small intestines when he was 7 months old...I thought it was bc of that.

Has the change in stool and tiredness only been for a day or two, or longer? You didn't change food or add new treats?

Is the consistency otherwise okay...or is there blood, gel...etc...anything weird about the texture/color?

So, what did they say the tumor was (and it was benign then?)?

the tumor was benign.. no blood or anything weird..just smaller stool that looks skinny

the stool is skinny because of inflammatory intestines my two with inflammatory bowel disease have skinny poos and my girl who is normal as full poops. This is a sign of inflammatory bowel disease so stay away from inflammatory foods like white potato. The stool tells alot - my demi maltese who is healthy is on a higher grain diet so she has alot of poop and full as high grain diets produce more stool than lower grain diets as the carbs are what constitutes the stool. This is why dogs who eat raw have white powdery small stools barely anything which is what happened when i fed raw for 6 mos to my 3 years ago. The body absorbs more and there are no carbs so the waste is minimal.

Romeo's mommy, I'm gonna jump in your thread again.:p Thanks for the info Deb. What other foods should we avoid? I haven't fed Momo any white potatoes...could it be apples? He loves apples & bananas. He loves to eat anything & everything.

The stool is still skinny. I am feeding him Wellness for allergies mixed with Lotus chicken formula and Natural Balance LID. I am so worried.

google inflammatory foods and make sure those are not on there to be safe :)

wow you have alot of mixtures there stick to one food and if you are doing a food for allergies stick to the wellness only - too many combos can confuse things so stick to one food and no treats to see what is going on . Ibd is very common in this breed and it is tied to dogs with allergies as they get more inflammation in their body as they have an over reactive immune system so things get inflamed, red and itchy. both are tied to immune mediated disease - ibd is a food intolerance which inflames the intestines making poop small and skinny so get down to a basic food and work from there

Thanks Deb, I did google it yesturday & most were anti-inflammatory foods. The one I looked at that were inflammatory had gluten (wheat, barley, & rye) listed along w/nightshade veggies (pototo, tomato) any dairy products. These were lists for people but I'm assuming it's the same for doggies. I'm gonna have to go look at the ingredients in their food again, NB Sweet Potato & Venison.

i read on another site that feeding different foods was better? they are all good foods. what you are saying makes sense. which one should i use?

yeah the venison and sweet potato has potato protein -I talked to the nutritionist from natural balance for 2 hrs the other day. she was very nice. I was concerned it had white potato in it and she said not it is not white potato

it is ok to rotate in a healthy dog but not a dog having health issues a dog with health issues should be kept on what works
