Oh and he lost some weight... last vet visit a few months back, he was 12.5lbs. Now the scale said he was 11.7lbs! I don't know if some weight loss is from not eating as much lately or what... but he didn't need to lose weight, he's already a skinny thing, lol. |
I am sorry that I did not see this thread earlier. I sure am pleased to hear that it was not on the serious side and that he is already feeling better on the meds!! Was hard to watch Jackson in the video - will look forward to a more 'active' one in the future!! We pray for a speedy and complete recovery! |
Best wishes for Jackson's continued recovery! |
Wow...so glad you got a diagnosis...and what a surprise it is...and an odd "relief" in a way, in terms of it not being LP etcetera. Give the fella a hug for us. So great he is already feeling better. :) |
Brit - I just now saw this post (I must have been hiding under my rock the past few days). When I first saw the title, I thought it was going to be a video of Jackson doing his new limp trick. I am so sorry to read that he took ill but very happy that a diagnosis was made and the fact that he seems to be recovering already. I wish a speedy recovery to him! |
[QUOTE=Britster;2931260]I will definitely do my research  Ticks are BAD around here though. Terrible in the summer. Lymes is pretty high in MD - humans and pets. I always make sure I know what Jackson's getting first. Thanks for the info. :) Yes...Lymes is bad here in MD which could be why my vet did not make it seem like an optional shot. There are a lot of deer here where I live in Montgomery County. But she did say the Lepto was optional..and I did not get that series for either of my dogs. Max had NO problems with the Lymes vaccines. Mickey gets sore so he gets a Benedryl shot before hand now. I guess it depends where in the US you live. I am just happy that it was caught early in Jackson. :) :) |
That is great news that Jackson is responding to the meds so quickly. Yay Jackson! I'm glad that you were able to get into see the vet. Thanks for texting me today. I was thinking about you guys. :) Hugs and kisses Jackson! :) Maggie May misses you. :) |
Wow, Just seeing this thread :( Poor Jackson, I am glad he is getting treatment and wish him a speedy recovery! Big hugs for you Jackson!! |
Wow, who knew!!!...I'm so glad he's responding well to the meds...Maybe since he has to be a little chilled out for a week, he'll put on a little weight too...Must have been really a stretch for you, w/the vet, the wedding, and all at the same time...Bless your heart...Hope you two are out romping and playing soon...Just wondering, did the vet suggest the lyme vaccine, or is that just something you feel you should do? |
I just saw this thread! Whew, glad Jackson is better now. xoxo from the both of us. |
I'm so glad he's doing better already! FYI: I don't give mine Lymes or Lepto Vaccine as Lymes is easily treated with antibiotics, (may test for it yearly though, money better spent) and too many reports of the dangers of giving small dogs Lepto Vac. My vet said it wasn't a threat in this area and wasn't recommended. And no dental vac or giardia vac....too new on the market and longterm problems not documented yet. |

Yeah, I never give Jackson Lepto after he had a reaction as a puppy. I think vets are wayyy over-vaccinating our dogs so I'm picky & choosy with what he gets and what I think is necessary. He doesn't even get bordatella. The new vet I saw yesterday didn't really suggest the Lymes shot, she just asked if he had had it. She's calling me on Thursday to check up and I will ask about it then. I'll probably end up not getting it. As long as I keep Jackson on K9 Advantix, he should be OK. He had sooo many ticks while on Frontline and I'm sure that's when/how he got infected. On a positive note, I'm glad I found a vet that I like better and am switching to. :) |
Brit!! Aw man I just saw this, was on vaca....so sorry this happened but SO HAPPY Jackson is responding so well! And SOOOOO happy it was not LP!!!! xoxoxox- Snick & Viv |
Oh no, I'm just seeing this! (Actually, I'm kinda glad -- at least I know there's a happy ending!) The limping reminded me so much of Eddie's ACL issues that I would have gotten you worried about all the wrong things. Thankfully, you found a great vet. Amazing that the meds seem to be working so quickly! That's gotta be a good sign. I Googled, and it said the sooner you get treatment the better. I'm so glad your vet figured it out so quickly. Please let us know how his recovery goes! We can't have a trick star out of action! |
Years ago when Chipper got Lyme Disease it was about 10 days after getting the vaccination. Following year again Chipper got the Lyme shot and again got Lyme shortly after. The third year the same thing happened and I said never again would he be vaccinated for Lyme. Chipper lived to be 13 years and never got Lyme again. We live within a few miles of Lyme, Ct where the disease originated so we do have a lot of deer ticks in our area but my vet will not vaccinate any small breed. They just have too many severe side effects from the vaccine. |

Jackson wanted to show everybody how much better he is on his leg already. He was way too concerned with burying his bone to filmed though. |

Now my question... how in the WORLD am I going to keep Jackson "down" for 7 days? He's already jumped off my bed three times! Yikes! I'm trying hard but every time I turn my head... he's doing something he's not supposed to ("running" through the house, getting on/off furniture). Luckily, he's relaxing right now chewing a bully stick. |
Yep, bully sticks to the rescue...you might have to gate yourselves in your room for more time than you planned  Why does he have to be still, anyway? |

So glad he's better, he must be wondering why you were following him when he was burying his treasure, George always rehides it if I'm watching, it will be interesting to know how you keep him "still" for a week ;). Anyway excellent news I love keeping up with his exploits .:D |

I just did a Happy Dance for Jackson! After more thought: (scary) He more than likely built up antibodies against Lymes by having the disease, so vaccinating him wouldn't be necessary. You could do a titer instead. I have heard alot of flaky stuff going on with Lymes, like a lot of false positives when pets/people are tested, and vaccines that really don't provide the protection they were developed for. Jackson's turn around is truly amazing! I can't stop thinking about it. I wouldn't worry about his weight loss at this point, but do keep an eye on it, maybe weekly would be good. I'm sure as soon as his activity level picks up, so will his appetite. He doesn't look thin, and from his videos he looks very fit and healthy. Good job Mommy. :D |
I'm so glad to hear that Jackson is doing better!! He looks so much happier :D Yay Jackson!! |
I'm so glad to hear that Jackson is on the mend!! I'm glad it was nothing as serious as LP. ;) |
Just saw the thread. I am sooo glad Jackson is on the mend! :) |
Yay! Jackson looks like he's feeling so much better! Can you get him some stairs so he doesn't jump? They have them at CVS or Wahlgreens for like $10.00. It won't be too difficult to keep him still for the next few days though...it's a little bit chilly to be going outside!!! brrrrrr. Now it's really surpising about how different vets treat their patients, our vet recommended the lyme vaccine. We've not had any probles with it. |
Welcome to my world! Eddie's on restricted activity for 6 months! I'm not sure what the vet told you but if you really need to restrict activity, you might consider setting up an xpen in the house. Eddie's not even supposed to walk on wood floors, so I have a foam pad and sleeping bag in the xpen. He's gotten to the point that he likes it in there. |
