Have your dog lay down on his back on your lap. Relax him, and slowly massage his extremities. Use your thumb and your index fingers to feel the joints of the foot that got hurt and compare it to the one that is normal. Sometimes, all it takes is the joint snapped out of it socket. Used Chinese Ointment (liquid tiger balm) or BenGay to massage the hurted foot 4-6 times a day. Do not let your dog run or walk too much. Please carry him outside for potty. This happened to my little LuLu. I was frustrated for a week, and someone on this website recommended X-Ray & Surgery. What you need to do is watch how he walks and how he put his foot down to the ground. Your baby will tell you. :eek:

I know Jimi used to always lift a back leg up like he was limping when he was walking around in the snow for too long.. but you said the snow around you was gone. :(

I did a lot of massaging this morning and I laid him on my lap on his back and he just relaxed, passed out and let me massage his legs and hips. He's laying down a lot more than normal so I know he's not totally himself. Plus he never just relaxes on my lap for 10 minutes asleep!

I was under the impression that LP was more when they would limp for a few minutes, and then be fine, etc. This has been going on since yesterday around 1pm. But I'm for sure going to get him checked out for LP at the vet. I really want to get him in tomorrow so I'm going to have to work around this wedding.

I'm pretty positive it's not glass or anything because I literally see nothing.

I've been picking him up to go outside so he doesn't use any stairs and he's staying on a leash for potty breaks. The thing I'm not understand is he literally had like no activity yesterday minus the 3 on-leash potty breaks and he randomly started limping. We had done trick training earlier but I don't think a few of his tricks would have made him limp this bad.

I'm definitely going to try and get him into the vet tomorrow.

It depends on if this is lp and what type of trick that Jackson was doing. The movement of "lungeing" (sp?) forward or up might be aggravating the knee joint. While it may not seem likely to us, the knew can be just enough out of the socket and rubbing. If it is lp, you will want to keep that type of movement to a minimum. I can't imagine that it would be lp as you would have notice more symptons before this.

I bet all the running and playing in the snow has done something but I think that it might just be something that is a one time type of occurrence. Let us know what is up. We'll be sending Jackson some good thoughts and keep him in our prayers it's not anything too serious. :)

Did you read the link on LP I posted on the first page? It explains the different grades. In more serious grades of LP, the knee stays out of place.

Try to get him into the vet as soon as possible. Your vet will probably prescribe a steroid to bring the inflammation down and have you restrict his activity for a few weeks.

I was thinking the same thing. I feel like more symptoms would have occurred if it was a grade 3 or 4 LP problem not just suddenly when he's never had issues in his life.

He was also rough housing on Christmas Eve & Christmas with my dad's dogs, as I said, so I'm wondering if it's just now starting to bother him or something.

Yep, thanks for the link, I was reading and researching and I'm definitely going to be asking the vet lots of questions. I just don't see how it could be a grade 3 or 4 and happen so suddenly but I guess it's possible?

I'm calling the vet first thing in the AM. I tried to get him in today at a local vet open on Sunday's but unfortunately, the ONE vet available has a high fever and will not be in today. So I'll just take him to his regular vet tomorrow morning.

Make sure your vet checks his hips, too. According to the YTCA health survey, Legg-Perthes is even more common in Yorkies than LP's.
