Christmas in the ER Merry Christmas, YT! I spent my first Christmas (newlywed) with my new husband and my new puppy at the ER. Last night about 9ish, Mocha my 19 week old furbaby started throwing up. He had not been acting himself earlier in the day, my husband tried to convince me that he was okay and not to worry about him. I called the vet, she said to monitor him, btw he hadn't thrown up yet, and give her call back. Going against my better judgment, I didn't take him to the vet yesterday. He threw up 3 times last night, found out after the fact that my husband gave him a "few pieces of chicken" much to my disapproval, while I was in the shower . Called the ER vet and said, if he throws up again, bring him in. After throwing up, he ate and kept it down, I assumed he was feeling better. To make a long story short, today he still wasn't acting himself. I continued to monitor him, knowing he wasn't well, but was also trying not to panic and over react. He slept almost all day and refused to eat or drink ! No panic yet, but was beginning to worry. Thinking maybe low blood sugar, gave him some syrup, he quickly ate that, and 20 minutes later he was throwing up everywhere. Needless to say, we headed to the vet after we were rescued from the snow drift due to our white "blizzardie" xmas. The vet examined him to discover that he has a bacterial infection that was detected in his fecal sample. Three hundred dollars a shot to stop vomiting later, he's on two antibiotics, both once a day for the next 7-8 days. He appears to be feeling better, thank goodness. This will be a christmas to remember! Hope yours was filled with lots of love, joy, and cheer! |
Wow, sorry about the puppy scare. Not much of a Christmas for you guys. You will always remember your first Christmas! :D Hope you have a better New Year. Just glad you got your pup in to the vet on time so you will have a happy ending. |
Thanks RityzDaisy, happy new year to you as well! |
Glad that they found something out..sorry your baby is sick! Hope you can all relax now. |

Hope everything is better now. Sorry for the health problems and on Christmas at that. |
Glad to hear your pup is feeling better. Even if you had waited to take him to the vet, you still wouldn't have been able to really enjoy Christmas because you would have been so worried about him. Next time, follow your gut instinct. If I think anything is wrong with anyone we try to get medical help before the holiday arrives. Of course I adopted this behavior after spending too much time at the vet's unexpectedly on holidays!:D |
Fell better Mocha:) |
If something is going to go wrong it seems like it is over a weekend or holiday. Murphy's Law, I think. I am so glad that there was a solution to Mocha's illness. May your New Year bring many joyous moments with your precious Mocha. ~Joanne~ |
what a bummer so sorry but glad the little guy is feeling better |
Wonderful that they found the reason though! Of course on Christmas :( |
So sorry your baby is/was sick...but SO GLAD you took him in! Please keep us posted on his progress. You were so smart to take a vomiting puppy into the vet - they can go down so quickly. All the best to him! :) |
Glad you were able to figure it out. Glad that he is on the mends. :) |
I am so sorry your baby was sick at Christmas ! You were very smart to take him to the Vet on time. They get dehydrated very easily. |
