Rash
 

I have a 2year old male Yorkie. He has been geeting a rash/hives on his back and hind quarters. I took him to the vet and they did a tyhriod test on him which showed no problems. They gave him some antibotics which cleared it up after 2 tratments. It started to reappear again about a month later. We feed him BLue Buffalo dog food and use John Paul oatmeal shampoo when bathing him. Any ideals or suggestions would be appreicated.

Do you have any photos of it so people can see the rash?

Are you cleaning the floors or carpet with anything different?

My wife has started cleaning the kitchen floor with a Wet Swiffer mob a couple of months ago. Not sure if this would have any adverse effects on Frankie though. Our daughter has 2 Yorkies and also uses the Wet Swiffer mob and they do not have any issues.

We do not have any pictures of it, sorry. It really is not a rash per say. He has little bumbps on his hind quarters that are crusty.:animal36

i would not use those too many chemicals - i use vinegar and water for floors or shark steamer

sounds like a staph infection and your dog may be allergic to oatmeal as i never use oatmeal shampoo on allergy dogs as it is a grain so sounds like your dog may be allergic to it. Use dr bronners mild unscented baby shampoo with blue label or a BLUE BUFFALO BLUE HYPOALLERGENIC shampoo. Staph is little red pimple like bumps with crusties on top of it. Your vet did the right thing checking for thyroid as many times it can be sebaceous gland excretion that looks like that but it is more of a greasy surface but no red bumps. I would go to a dermatologist for this. Staph requires 25 days on antibiotics not 14 days as it comes back with a vengeance if the antibiotics are not given long enough. Someone on here recommended chamomille tea rinse as tea kills all infections so you may want to dillute a chamomille tea bag in a big water jug and poor over the skin every 3 days as a rinse and leave on skin - if your dog does not have allergies i would try this over the antibiotics as staph can be killed topically without antibiotics. A vet shampoo that works real weel is duoxo chlorhexedine shampoo so you may want to try that and wash every 3 days until it is killed

Sorry your little is going thru this. I've read some posts that swiffer cleaners can have an adverse effect on some. I too use a steam mop. I would definitely try to get it looked at.
