Blocked intestine!! I need help!!
 
Found out yesterday thru er vet that my 1 yr old yorkie has a blocked intestine. They did an xray and can see a small ball of something possibly something that has been builing up over time. They are wanting $3000 for the surgery which I don't have the money for. Im in michigan where things are not great and husband keeps getting laid off. I was hoping someone can tell me of some organization that might be able to help. Ill take anything.

Please contact a Yorkie rescue who will step in and take care of your baby. Time is not on your side and this is an emergency.

I am a foster mom with Yorkie Haven but we do not have any members in your state. I would suggest that you contact YTNR they will help. I'm so very sorry. :( If you need anything please PM me and I will try to help you.

can you sign the dog over to the animal hospital? I know it's not what you'd want to do but time is of the essence here.

Have you checked around with other vet offices in your area?
I'm thinking there are vets in SE MI who could do it for maybe half of that.

Can you get a Care Credit card? It is foe vet car and you can get some interest free credit. Like others have said see if another vet can help or a university animal clinic. I just had a vet help out on an elderly person's yorkie's dental. He gave us a 560.00 discount. If the er vet says your baby will be ok until tomorrow will your regular vet be able to do it? I hope you can work something out.

I hope the vet will help you work something out. Could you possibly call another vet who might help. I've heard that sometimes country vets are more willing to help out that way. Not sure if it's true but may be worth a try but your baby sounds like he needs help immediately!

What about checking into one of the Universities that offer animal science and will do this operation free of charge as a teaching tool. If you want to turn her over to a "reputable" Yorkie Rescue, then got with United Yorkie Rescue. They don't "sell" their dogs and are not afraid to show their books.
Anyway if you can't find a way to get her operated on I suggest you try and find a good home for her. One that will gladly pay for her surgery.

Are you implying YTNR is less than a reputable Rescue Organization?

That was the impression I got...either way bashing either rescue isnt offering any help to the dog. I dont think this is the time or place to vent your personal issues with the mentioned rescue organizations.

Frustrating isnt it :confused: we both know first hand how many dogs YTNR helps.

Also to address the comment about selling dogs....how do you think any organization would be able to continue to help these dogs if they werent asking an adoption fee??? I can say first hand that the adoption fee for every dog I have fostered in YTNR has been far lower than the actual vetting costs of that dog.

ER vets always require payment upfront, but maybe your regular vet will let you go on a payment plan?

How far are you from the MSU vet school? Vet schools are usually much cheaper.

I would try calling around to get some estimates from other vets as that is very high . In the mean time try some oil and metamucil. And maybe some green beans as they are full of fiber. I'm thinking this beyond pumpkin or apple, you need the big guns. I would give a 1/4 to a 1/2 tsp of the metamicil. You can mix it in some watered down pumpkin or apple juice. Please keep us posted on your baby.

I believe you need to be careful with your wording. It does appear to me that you are insinuating that other rescues are not reputable and that is pretty much out of line if that is the case!

To the OP: Your situation is an emergency....you really do need to come up with a solution quickly. You can apply for Care Credit online...and get an immediate response. Others have mentioned solutions to you that all seem reasonable. I do hope you are able to get the surgery done and keep your baby. I will keep you in my prayers.

I think you've gotten some great ideas already, I'm so sorry for your baby. Like others have said, rescues are a great idea in these situations - and there are plenty of wonderful, caring, devoted folks and rescues *right here* at YT - many of whom have posted in your thread - one of whom I think is right above me :).

This situation is considered an emergency !!!! My daughters Italian Greyhound almost died of blocked intestines from eating a corn cob, they didn't have the money for this right away, but they did come up with a payment plan with the vet, almost $3000 and their Greyhound was saved and alive today. Its very important that the surgery be performed IMMEDIATELY !! Been there thru it all for my grand dog. I'm sure the vet can do the surgery and worry about payments later. That babies life is at stake, answers are not always found on the computer when in such an emergency. Good luck, hope all turns out well. Thoughts and prayers your way.
This happened 2 days ago and we haven't heard any updates, hope all went well.

Please talk to the vet, explain that finances are not good but you heard
about Care Credit his office should have the paper's there for you to fill
out. Then they apply for you, mine did three years ago and I was given
credit within 20mins. Ask, it may be just what you need at this time.

Good luck and prayer's for that baby who needs them.

I agree with calling and getting more estimates. If the vet is saying there is a blockage--it is way past adding fiber, metamucil, pumpkin, etc--the intestines aren't moving anything thru-without surgery the pet will die. Good luck to the OP, I hope you will find some help.

I don't think Yorkiedaze meant any harm at all. she wasn't pointing out any certain rescue being less than a reputable Rescue, just offering advice. and if the op is wanting to turn her over she does need to look for a "reputable" rescue. there are many out there willing to help her. some people do know other rescues have worked with them and think they are best while they don't know any thing about others.


to the Op please get her in ASAP my sister lost her great dane from the same thing. please keep us updated. good luck Hun.
