I would think it might be time for an abdominal ultrasound. |
i would demand some answers or go to a different vet if it were me...this keeps happening and one of these times it wont' be so easy for her to get better. |

Finally!! As directed by our vet we have been giving Miracle her mylicon every hour and FINALLY Friday afternoon she had a HUGE poop!!! We also started her on an elmination diet to find out what she is actually allergic to. I am feeding her chicken, pumpkin and/or sweet potato and green beans 1/3 cup per day. She can have chicken and carrots for treats and so far it is working. Her belly is soft, she pooped fine today and she is not itching. We have been doing this since Friday and so far so good. She is sleeping normally, she is being sassy, waking me up at 6:00 am and following me around everywhere I go. Things seem back to normal. I am still giving her the mylicon but doing this every 3 to 4 hours until I talk to the vet tomorrow. Thank you all so much for advice and suggestions, they have been a great help. |
NO CHICKEN this could be your problem. This could be inflammatory bowel disease if the bowels get inflamed then it can induce vomitting or diarhea but also can possibly produce constipation. The pumpkin should be helping. Have you tried using coconut oil as a dietary supplement as this may help move things through as well - start with a 1/8 of a teaspoon daily for a week then move up to 1/4 tsp right after eating in morning. I will read this whole thread to see what i can find. Another thing that will definitely move things is brown rice as it is a high source of fiber but can trigger colitis so it could do the opposite affect but it will definitely move things so cook up some brown steamed rice -- i bought the organic brown rice at whole foods in the freezer section - I will read this thread and see what if i can help further |
ok well if this is working stick to it but if you are still having to supplement with mylicon then something may still not be running right but you will not know until you start cutting back on that. What about lactulose as that makes dogs go as well just curious if they ever mentioned that |
also with a dog with constipation i would feed a wet food not dry as it is easier to digest |

No turkey No poultry as sounds like poultry could be your trigger - I have read turkey is not good for dogs either and may be making her gassy. I would recommend feeding her canned natural balance venison and sweet potato or Fish and sweet potato - NO WHITE POTATO as it is inflammatory - NO inflammatory foods so google inflammatory foods. Go VERY BASIC. Just feed her the canned food and NO TREATS right now you need to get back to basics --Here is the deal with pumpkin it is used for constipation and for diarhea so too much can do the reverese affect so you have to be cautious of that - I gave too much along with brown rice and my girl had diarhea so the brown rice went through her whole along with having orange pudding poops. |

Um, nope had not heard of that. I have cut back, the vet was having me give her the mylicon every hour but not to exceed 12 doses. I started cutting back on it yesterday, she only received about 5 doses. She pooped again this morning and it looks normal. |

I am feeding her home cooked food due to her allergies, but for the record I couldn't get her to eat dry food to save my life. Her previous owners fed her Ceasar's so wet is all I could get her to eat. |

here is some info on turkey and why the day after thanksgiving is a bad day for pancreatitis. It is mainly due to dark meat and skin being fatty. Dog Park Etiquette Blog Archive Is Turkey bad for dogs? But the internal medicine specialist did tell me many dogs with ibd cannot handle poultry |

I was feeding her Natural Balance Duck and Potato until we found out that she is allergic to potato. The problem with the other ones that you suggested is that they contain potato protein so she can't have them. Believe me I have done my research.:-). I am cutting back on the pumpkin, because, yes, I have read about the diarrhea so I am giving more sweet potato. She is also allergic to rice and this I know not by an allergy test but when I was feeding her the Blue Buffalo she would start itching almost immediately. The chicken seems to be working fine and when I first brought her into my home she was eating ceasars chicken/beef stuff. I just want to feed her a better source of food than that. |
The Veterinary Use of Lactulose (Enulose, Cephulac) in Pets lactulose is for constipation and mylicon is for gas so not sure why they have not mentioned lactulose as a possible thing to help??? |
