Injured Elbow (fracture) My little Kayla had a fractured elbow. Surgent suggested the best way the bone can heal in its proper place is to implant a screw and pin. Kayla was only 3 months. After $3,500 later her bone is healing in its place. Heres the catch,,,1 month later Surgent now suggested the pin should be removed and while this is being done to remove the screw as well. The pin must be removed as its touching the tissue, however, they suggest to remove the screw as well, but its not necessary. No one had mentioned that 1 month later I would need to remove the screw and pin. Because its a foreign substance (screw and pin) that it should be removed. The fracture is not completely healed yet. Does anyone have pets with any of these substances? I dont know whether I should remove the screw or not. yes I agree the pin should come out but the screw?? as well. If I had opted to put a cast on her the bones may not have healed properly. Any advise will be appreciated. |
My Scarlett had the same injury 2 years ago. She had a screw put in. My vet said that if it didn't bother her to leave it in. She's shown no discomfort with it so it's still in. |
Elbow Fracture My boy also had an elbow fracture, he was 5 months old. We also were told it would heal on it's own however he wouldn't have full function so he had the surgery. He has like your baby, a pin and a screw. His surgery was in July and his post op check up showed everything healed beautifully and there was no mention of removing the pin or screw. I know not every fracture is going to be the same however I think the Doctor would have told you in the beginning the pin and screw should be removed after healing. |
