Spaying my pup even though she has diarrhea? Hello lovely people, Our cute Moki (female) is now almost 7 moths old and we have scheduled her spay surgery for this coming Thursday at a non-profit organization (PAWS). She has had on and off diarrhea for about 8 days now which goes away with feeding her chicken and rice but comes back when she goes back to her regular food. We also made a mistake of switching her diet to her regular food too quickly and trying to switch her regular food to another brand at the same time as well which I guess was a bad idea. Hopefully she'll be better in a few days for her surgery but we're not sure if we should delay it. Any thoughts? |
I would call their office and ask someone. I hope she's feeling better really soon. |
My opinion is that she should be fully recovered before she go for the surgery. This is the same when puppies go for their vaccinations. If they are not well, strictly no vaccination for them. Hope this helps. |
You should have infection ruled out prior to surgery. Cutting any creature with an infection and worsen and spread it. Also, PAWS gives you the option of blood work preop to check different metabolic functions like kidney function that would, if compromised, inhibit the metabolizing and excretion the anesthesia. It's more important in little dogs. But, this is an option and costs extra but is still a bargain @ PAWS. Good luck! |
did u get her tested for giardia; 8 days is too long for diaherea; she needs to get well before any surgery. please check with the vet. good luck |
