Worried..What Would it Look Like if Luxating Patella Pins Have Moved?! Hi guys, So I am a little worried this morning. I woke up and noticed some redness (almost like a scratch) on Moose's right leg where his incision site is. There is also a small bump and for the life of me I can't remember if it is new or old. :confused: The incision sites looked great until I saw his right leg this morning. Is this what it would look like if the pin from his LP surgery had moved?! I'm sick to stomach just thinking about this. Or could it be infection? His normal vet is closed for the holiday and his surgeon, Dr. Erne, isn't at the hospital on Saturdays. Wondering if I should take him to an ER? I've noticed over the past couple of days that when Moose is walking, he is still "scooting" his right leg across the floor- just like he used to before LP surgery. Not sure if this is habit or if the pin has moved. I'm so worried! :( I am going to try and take a picture of it and post it here if I can get him to be still...anyone ever had pins that have moved? |
Do you think it is a suture? Hot Rod had something that was like a sharp feeling thing and he didn't have pins put in. Turns out it was a suture. I could see it and feel it for a very long time. He had internal dissolving stitches then and for his neuter. He also had one poking out at his neuter. Even though the surgeon isn't in, is there someone else that can help you at that office? Also our surgeon told us that it could be from memory that he is doing what he is doing with his leg when he walks. It is that he may remember pain associated and compensates for it out of habit. Hope that this is the case with Moose. I've called the ER with questions. maybe you can do the same without having to take him in. Just to put your mind at ease. :) |
That is a good idea, maybe they can tell me what it might look like. He is sleeping right now so I'll have to wait to get a picture. I swear it looks just like a long scratch, it is the length of his incision site. I can't understand how he wouldn've done that. I'll post a picture as soon as I can get one and maybe someone can help on the phone. Praying the pin hasn't moved! |
the other thouht...if it was the pin, I would think that it would cause a lot of pain...does Moose seem like he's in terrible pain? |
He's acting his normal self.. I guess that's a good sign! Playing with toys and eating normally. I guess it could be that he was biting it at night while he slept, just want to make sure it isn't a pin. With those little knobby knees it's hard to tell what's what right now! |
Yeah, I'm guessing that it's a suture(s). I kinda freaked out when I saw Hot Rods. I could see it move whenever his little moved. It was poking out like what a needle would look like under the skin. He had his 4 week check up at that time and surgeon never even commented on it and I forgot to ask, so it wasn't anything he was worried about and obviously I wasn't as I forgot to ask. Moose is a trooper! Give him a big hug and kisses from us. :) |
Pins don't usually move. I had two in my wrist years ago. The bone grows around them pretty quickly. I don't remember what your surgery date was, but is he moving around too much? Don't let him overdo it yet, especially if he's dragging the leg. Healing takes time, and he's better off keeping it immobile. Some swelling will be there and it'll be abnormal looking. Also, remember that you don't really notice his knee anatomy when he has hair. It's going to make you uneasy for a while. Has he had a checkup recently? |
how long ago was surgery? Molly had an allergic reaction to the cat gut stitches when she was spayed. That was a red slightly raised line running the length of the scar, but showed up about 2 days after her surgery. |
