loosing blood from vagina Hello. My dog (Toots) recently had a season which seemed ok , but about 3 weeks later she appears to be in season again , but this time she has been spotting a lot of blood , this has gone on for over a week now. She appears to be ok in herself ,eating and drinking normally but the loss of blood is now really worrying me. Have had her to the vets and he has sugested spaying her , I think he will have to open her up anyway to see whats going on inside. Has anyone had a similar experience with there yorkie |
She could be having what is referred to as a split heat. Do you know if the vet did a vaginal smear or any blood work? I would be concerned about her getting a uterus infection and that could lead to pyometra. You might want to get another opinion. Any female that is not going to be used for breeding should be spayed anyway. |
Thx for reply Yes the vet did a blood test as he thought it was pyometra , but it came back ok. she also had a scan , not sure what type of scan it was , but he said there were no abnormalities, he has also given her antibiotic injections as well. But she is stll loosing blood. |
Is it bright blood like during a heat cycle? Did he rule out if she was in heat or not. Is the vulva swollen like she is in heat? How old is she? |
Sorry for delay in replying have been away. The blood is bright red , she has been bleeding less today , very small amounts now. The vet said it could be a split heat , but was not sure. She is going in tomorrow for an operation to open her up and see whats goin on inside , the vet said he might have to remove her womb. I just hope she is strong enough to get through the op. She is eating but only small amounts and she has lost weight. She is a strong dog and been through operations before , she recently had a tumour removed. |
Tumor and now unexplained bleeding! Poor little baby :(....Athena and I will pray for her! |
Just to say Toots is doing fine after her op. She is staying at the vets overnight so they can keep an eye on her. The vets found 2 ovarian cysts which were causing the problems. Her womb and ovaries have been removed and hopefully she will make a full recovery. |
Thanks for the update. I pray she makes a speedy recovery. |
Congrats on being a diligent pup owner! YOU made the difference! I will pray for her! :animal-pa |
