Bentley Can't Breathe My poor 12 year old male Yorkie has trachea collapse and is having a horrible time breathing. He is coughing and making raspy sounds nonstop. We've brought him to the vet twice and the only solution seems to be to see a surgeon about a stent. We have to wait until Teusday to call and hope we can get something done soon. I hope the stent idea is workable. ticker2 from Vermont:confused: |
I said a prayer for Bentley and you. Does he need to go to the Emergency vet tonight? |
Just want you to know that we will say a special prayer. |
What drugs does the vet have him on? |
Stints Hi, I had the surgery done on my 7 year old yorkie. He had two good months following that. Unfortunately the surgery will not cure the problem but it can buy you some more time with your baby. I am so sorry to hear that Bently has a collapsed trachea. I will be thinking of you. |
If he is not on any meds they may give him a little relief. I hope he can breathe easier soon. |
Bentley Can't Breathe Bentley sees the surgeon on Wednesday for examination - then we'll find out what we can do to solve this trachea collapsing problem - if we can. He has drugs right now to control his coughing and keep him calm, and he went for a short walk this morning and seemed much better. |
I am so glad the medicines have helped. Hopefully you can avoid surgery. |
Your poor Bentley. Sending him prayer's for a successful surgery if needed. Happy to see the meds are working. THe thought of not being able to breath is terrifying. Hugs to both of you, |
Hello im so sorry to hear of your news, unfourntatley this is the problem with the yorkshire terrier breed, it makes me so upset that this affects so many of the yorkies, I had 2 beautiful yorkies mickey passed away last year through this problem he was 12, and just yesterday i lost my dear dog tommy to the same also with an enlarged heart he was his brother 13 years. I say you do what you feel is best, you know your dog you know whats best. All i can say is this is a very painful and upsetting problem which will not only effect your dog but you, its painful to watch your dog in so much pain and no theres nothing you can do. Surgery is risky depending on the age, in my own personal opinon i feel the surgery is only prolonging the pain which will eventually come now of course you shouldnt listen to my opinon only you know best, you know your dog better then i do. I just wish you the best of luck and sending thoughts your way. xxxxxxx |
Have to do it Bentley is having trouble at times - we're going to spend the money and get him measured for a stent for his collapsing trachea. There is a company in California that makes stendts for dogs. They put the thing in through his mouth. $4000 if the cost for both the measuring and testing procedure and then the insertion of the stent. A lot of money - but the vet will let me know if Bentley has any problems after the first part of the procedure, whether it is worth it to go on. He thinks Bentley is in great shape for a dog his age. These Yorkies are sure lovable dogs .... |
