Lacy went to Dr. Bohling at the UT small animal clinic at the end of July to investigate and repair a possible shunt (she was completely asymptomatic all her life, so we questioned for a long time whether we should get the surgery, but high bile acid numbers compelled us). She recovered great in the weeks after, except for periodic bouts of vomiting bile. We were worried, so Dr. Bohling told us to go ahead and get the three-month check-up bile acid test a month early. We did that, and Lacy's numbers came in 100% NORMAL. We were absolutely stunned. She went from 155/225 pre- and post- to 7 and 15. Her behavior hasn't really changed since the surgey, because she was a hyper nutball before she got repaired anyway, but she does eat a lot more now. We got to give her chicken and ground beef again, and she was just the happiest little thing. So anyway, that's our happy story, and the prognosis says that Lacy should now have a completely normal life and never know she's got a little metal ring in her tummy. Thanks to everyone for your support, and my family would recommend Dr. Tobias, Dr. Bohling, and their wonderful, caring staff a thousand times over!
Here's a pic of Lacy taken during one of our pitstops on the way down the TN . . . she almost had fun! |
