Laxating Patella Surgery, personal experience wanted! My little rescue Yorkie Addison has laxating patellas in his rear legs. He doesnt complain or act as if he even notices, its me that has a problem with it. I'm leaning towards getting him surgery if water and physical therapy dont work. My main concerns are his age, he is very young... will be 2 in March and the fact he's only 3 lbs. I'm very confident the surgery will be successful, my uncle is his vet so I know he is great hands. I do still want to hear personal experiences with the surgery whether the outcomes good or bad. My goal is to get this taken care of before damage is done and pain starts to accompany his every move. :aimeeyork Thanks! |
My Zada had both knees operated on at the same time back in 06. She was not even limping or in any distress. The Vet who did the surgery didn't even deepen the grove the knee-cap sits on so they slipped out and I wasn't even aware they had until 3 months ago when she started limping. I then took her to an orthopedic surgeon who's the best in the country and teaches world wide. Anyway her limping was due to a torn ligament, but he did find she had a grade 4 in each knee. He did operate on the right leg to repair the torn ligament and patella. He left the left leg only because it isn't giving her problems. He did say she should not have been operated on the first time since she was not showing any signs of pain or stress. He felt ligament knees and she too has a grade 4 in each knee, but no limping or in any discomfort and advises not to have her operated on unless she does. Anyway, I would find a really good orthopedic surgeon and get an expert opinion. ;) |
Apple did a "skip" this morning... Today is the first day that I have ever seen Apple do a "skip" on her back left leg...Of course, I'm extremely upset, but I also know I need to find out what's going on w/that, and find the very best ortho, in the area, to help me do so...I'm sure I'll have my own vet look at her, and, possibly do x-rays, but I have more trust in my YT friends in guiding me to the right surgeon, if this becomes necessary...I live between Houston and Galveston, so I'm sure someone can tell me what they know about surgeons in the Houston/Galveston area...Thanks so much, and, of course, for you praying mamas, pray for my little Apple that this isn't serious, and we can overcome it for a long, healthy and pain free life.... |
We went thru lp surgery and I can say that while it was happening I was really stressed. Now I say that I am very glad we did it. He's much better over all and I don't worry about him being in pain or discomfort. sounds like you have a wonderful uncle and a great vet. :) |
