cannidae dog food safe or not? I was convinced by a pet store owner that cannidae food would help with my yorkies allergies. After i bought the food i read on the internet where claims where made about the food making their dogs very sick. Has anyone here had problems with the food? |
i guess its debatable whether its safe or not. Some people here still feed it with no problems. I used to feed it but now feed Innova small breed which i feel is a better food then canidae. there are other foods like solid gold, wellness, and natures variety which i think are better then canidae as well. i typically do not listen to pet store employees when purchasing food. |
I used to feed Canidae All Stages, then I found out that the fish meal in their food is preserved with ethoxyquin - but they don't have to put it on the bag because it comes to them that way from their supplier. Soooo.....no more Canidae. I had also heard that Canidae switched their formula not too long ago, and after the switch a lot of dogs got very sick. I never had that problem - but just don't feel good feeding my dogs (ESPECIALLY a tiny yorkie) something everyday that contains a known carcinogen.... There are many other better choices of food out there. ;) |
cannidae Thanks so much for the info. Trying to do what's best for my baby and end up almost poisening her. Thanks again!!! |
I use Canidae Chicken & Rice All Life Stages -- it has no fish meal. They have several different formulas -- not all include the fish meal, and some have no grain. I tried samples of several of the top quality brands and Canidae was one all of my dogs would eat well. Since I have 4 -- finding one they all agreed with was no small feat. We are very happy with it. I get lots of compliments about my dogs' coats and they are as healthy as can be. So, for us Canidae is working great. The reports of sickness, I believe, came about when Canidae had a forumulation change. Mine did not have any reaction to the change at all. But others reported their dogs got sick or would not eat the new recipe. |
