Tube feeding question, answer soon? I had a 1.7 ounce girl born yesterday. Last night she wasn't breathing so well and looked skinnier than she should. I thought that maybe she wasn't nursing so I tube fed her. This morning she was breathing better but thin again so I tube fed her again. My problem is that now she looks thin again and I can't get her to take the tube into her stomach. Last night no problem, the tube went and went and went. Today, I can't get it to go past her elbow. I can't remember because I have had so little trouble getting tubes to go down but isn't the measurement to the bottom of their ribs? Thanks, Sylvia |

Tube feeding is a careful process. Take her to your vet and have him/her show you exactly how it is done. |

My vet measured the tube from the tip of the mouth to the last rib, remember to curve the tube with the throat and then down right past the last rib . Mark it then you know everytime how far it should be down. |

She might have a cleft palatte (sp?) or other abnormality hanging you up. If she does not gain weight or continues to struggle you may want to have her checked out (I bet you already know this, but I thought I would just put it out there). |
