UPDATE ON TEDDY AND HIS HEART - We have seen the cardiologist today ..... Hi Thank you all for your support, I am really grateful, it has really helped. I am pleased to say Teddy has not got a PDA :):):) He has the same as my other two Yorkies had: chronic degenerative mitral valve disease :cry8: It is worse for Teddy, as he has it so young. None of mine were realated, so it is just one of those things. Sadly you cannot cure it. It is progressive, and can be treated to prolone life, and the quality of life. No one can say how long he can/will live with it. But he will die young. He is only 3 years old. All we can do is love him while we can, and do the very best for him that we can. It is very sad, as we were hoping he would be one of the long lived babies. I count my blessings, that it wasn't anything worse, so many of you loose your babies, younger than 3, so I am thankful, that we have Teddy now, he is so special and has helped me loose 3 people in my life. First Max, my first ever Yorkie in 2006. My world ended, and I couldn't cope, nothing stopped the pain, until Teddy came along, then he helped me when my dad died this April, and then in August when we had to have Levi our second Yorkie put to sleep. Then less than 2 months later, Teddy has a heart problem, I suffer from a rare blood clotting disorder, so it has been hard, but there are plenty of worse things in the world today. There is always someone worse off, sometimes we need to count what we do have, rather than what we don't and we can carry on ..... We have Teddy now, and we all have each other on YT to help each other though the good and the bad times. THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING THERE FOR TEDDY & I :) Love Diana & Teddy :yorkietal |
Dang it! I wish the news was better! I am so sorry. It just amazes me that you have had this problem with THREE unrelated dogs! I'm sure we all will be holding you and Teddy close to our hearts. I will be praying the he lives a long comfortable life. Bless you! |
Diana, I'm so sorry Teddy was diagnosed the same as your other two pups. It's really hard to believe that you had three pups with the same desease. Doing what you can is all that can be expected from you. Who knows, it may be years yet before something does happen to Teddy. Don't think about it, enjoy him. None of us know what tomorrow may bring. Hugs to both of you |

Hi Lou So were we, he is so special, and so loving he doesn't deserve this. Yes it is awful to have THREE un-related ones with the same thing, it is worse as he is 3 the others were both 9 when they got it diagnosed. All we can do is make every day count. Thank you for your support. Diana & Teddy x |

Hi Archie, You are so right, to not dwell on it, as it would spoil the precious time we have together. It may be longer than we think, lets hope so. Again thank you for your support, it means so much to me. Love Diana & Teddy x |
Ulgh I truly teared up reading all of this. I am SO so sorry this has happened to you. I couldn't possibly bear to lose so many dogs like that. Just losing my Hancock I thought I would never be the same until Luna cam around. I do hope Teddy can still live awhile and bring you joy. Sending prayers your way <3 |

Hi It is hearbreaking when you loose one, I am so sorry for you too. It has been awfully tough for us, but we would do it all again if we had too, Max and Levi had other things too, that we were on tender hooks for whilst having them treated. But if someone said, you can go back and have three 100% fine Yorkies, or the three you have had, we would pick these 3 every time. Better to of loved and lost than never loved at all they say... and to of known our three has been a joy and an honour. We don't know what may of happened if they had belonged to those who don't care as much as we do on YT for our babies. I am so happy for you that Luna has helped you over the loss of Hancock, they sure leave pawprints on our hearts, that no-one can take away, they are so special each and every one of them. Teddy & Diana x |

Hi Kathy Thank you so much for your support. |
VET ERROR ... Teddys Heart is NOT too close to his chest .... He has CDMVD Our vet said that Teddy's heart was either too large for his chest cavity or the chest cavity too small. Or the heart was in the wrong place.... We thought it odd at the time, and couldn't find any information about this at all. We both ask individually if he had heard a mumur and he said no it wasn't a murmur. It has turned out is IS a murmur GRADE 2 (Out of 6) The cardiologist confirmed it, as did another vet at the same practice. You will see my other posts about what is wrong with Teddy's heart, Have any of you had a Yorkie with the same conditon: CDMVD CHRONIC degenerative mitral valve disease (CDMVD), also referred to as myxomatous mitral valve disease and endocardiosis, is the most common cardiac disease in dogs. The early stages are typified by a few small, discrete areas of opacity or nodules in the region of valvular apposition. Ultimately, the condition progresses to also involve the basal portion of the valve and chordae tendineae. The valvular changes result in progressively worsening mitral regurgitation and, in some cases, can lead to the development of heart failure. I would like to hear from any of you. (Teddy is my 3rd Yorkie who has had this) |
Bless Teddy's heart. Hang in there buddy! I hope someone here can relate with you! :lovewings |
Thank you so much, I am heartbroken, He is only 3 years old, our others were 9 when they were diagnosed, He may only have 2 years left with us. I am so upset. |
Well I will keep you all in my prayers! Hopefully Teddy can pull a miracle and live a longer life than expected |
Thank you I do hope so. Max lived with it for 2-1/2 years and Levi for 3-1/2 years, the cardiologist said it is usually worse when they get it young like Teddy, but all we can do is try our best NOT to think about it, and enjoy each and every minute of every single day. |
Absolutely! All you can do is love him and enjoy him and spoil him rotten (which is never hard to do) =P |
You are so right, they only have to look at you and it melts your heart. Thank you for your support, I couldn't get by without YT. I joined soon after I lost Max, my first ever Yorkie, in 2006. It is a wonderful place isn't it. How many Yorkies do you have? |
Just wanted to let you know that Teddy is in my prayers for LONG and HAPPY life ;) |
Thank you it means a lot to me & to Teddy too. |

Just one, going on 2 as soon as I get some more money in my pocket :] She was the best gift in the world when I couldn't leave my bed after losing my king charles cavalier spaniel. He was my whole world and I lost him SO suddenly. He went from happy healthy to gone in a matter of 3 days. Got into a very deadly plant out here in the country when my grandmother accidentally let him slip out the door. She picked me up immediately and is at my side ALL the time. I love her to pieces, they are amazing animals. |
I am so very sorry to hear what happened, I was like you, when Max was put to sleep, my world ended, I know exactly what you mean, I wanted to die literally. (Doesn't that sound awful) He was the first dog I ever put to sleep, in fact the first pet too ! Nothing would help me, I had Levi at the time, and I loved him to bits, but he was never quite so loving and cuddly, he was a real terrier, and very independant for a Yorkie. My husband didn't want another one, but in the end, he said he wanted us to have another one, so we got Teddy. Losing Levi in August this year, was like losing Max all over again, and Max and Levi were a pair, Like " salt and Pepper " " Black and White " " Night and Day" You get the idea I am sure...... It was like it was not only Levi we lost, but the last part of Max too. Teddy is like them both in his personality. He is perfect. I just don't want to loose him, he is my last one, and my husband won't have any more, no way no how, and he will NOT change his mind. So that is also what makes it harder, the fact that Teddy will have a short life is sad enough, but being my last pet makes it even harder. My heart goes out to you I know exactly what you mean. I am so happy that your Yorkie, has helped you, with the loss and pain, they do don't they. I only wish I could have more ..... |
