Seizures Yesteray my four lbs, four year old, female Yorkie Holly had three seizures within four hours. She had an upset stomach on and off all week. The vet said it was from low sugar. We had to leave her in the emergency room all day. We picked her up last night, it is almost 24 hours since her last seizure. Has anyone every had this happen? |
Yes, this is possible, but unusual in an older dog. You said she had an upset stomach for a week prior. How do you know this? Was she vomiting? Alot? How and what do you feed her? Do you monitor her food intake? or is she being free fed (food left out 24/7?). I'm concerned as to why she had low sugar. Do you know why? What did your vet recommend? |
Seizures She was vomiting on and off. She has had a stomach problem from the time she was a pup. I have been to a couple of vets, they said, 'sensitive' stomach. She did have blood work yesterday and everything was normal. I do not know if the low blood sugar was the reason, she has been sicker than this and it never happened. The ER vet said, it was not a full seizure. Her legs go out, head moves, but no foaming, eyes rolling, etc., she gets up and is fine. I am feeding her boiled chicken today, that is what the vet advised for a few days until I see my regular vet. |
Please keep us updated. I would also feed her plain rice.. |

Has she been bile acid tested? What were you feeding her before you started giving her boiled chicken? |
Hope she feels better soon. My older pom had a grand mal seizure and when I took her to the Er they said that it is not uncommon for a dog to have a seizure during their lifetime with no known cause. She never had another one. It sure is scary to see them have one. |

Seizures I want to thank all of you for your support. She was eating Dry Food, non-allergy because my other girl has allergies. 1/2 pkg Ceaser morning and evening. She was never a water drinker. No she did not have the 'bile' test, we are seeing the vet tomorrow I am going to ask him. Thanks again. |
Please ask your vet to do a bile acid test just to be sure she does not have a liver shunt. Ceasar's isn't a good food. If you want or need to feed soft food there are many others that would be nutritionally better for your girls. She could have food allergies, they can cause seizures. |

I do know a liver shunt dog that was just diagnosed at age 3 with 3-4 shunts and seemed normal up until some diarhea so it is still possible to have a liver shunt at 4 years old so this definitely needs to be ruled out to be sure |
I just wanted to say that I'm thinking of you and Holly :hug: I've had recent experience of my dog (not a yorkie) experiencing seizures and it was incredibly frightening and upsetting to witness. I'm praying for a happy outcome and swift recovery for little Holly xxx |
Seizures Waiting for our vet to call, she will not eat, throwing up with diarrhea, but she is playful, went for her morning walk, alert. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. |

Seizures Have an appointment with a specialist this p.m., Bile Acid test, etc. Will not have results for a couple of days. Will keep everyone posted. Thanks |

Seizures Diagnosis so far is Pancreatis, fat free diet, acid bile test result tomorrow or next day. Vet said liver did not look enlarged but pancreas is thick. She did some additional blood work, said everything is within range. Holly has been eating boiled chicken, did drink a little more water today. Vet said she can eat pasta &/or potato if she will not eat rice. |

Seizuires I guess I did not write correctly. She does not think the seizures were from the pancreas, she said it is probably some form of epilepsy. This poor little girls has been with five vets so far. I |

Seizures Liver Shunt has been ruled out. Vet said, Pepcid AC once a day, low fat diet. No vomiting today, but really hard to get her to eat anything. |

Seizures Don't know the numbers. Our vet said the pepcid is to keep her stomach settled. Be honest I have not given it to her yet. I am feeding her boiled chicken and rice, she is doing very well so far. We are going to watch her. We are going to try and buy some low fat food and treats for her. She lost almost a pound being sick and she was only 5 1/2 lbs. to start. |
