Constipation I'm a new yorkie mommie and well 3 weeks into it Harley had to go to the vet. He was crying as if somebody was killing him. Well needless to say I found out he was gassy and constipated. Gee here I thought I got a male dog and he sounds like he's PMSing. Is anyone out there had issues like this too? Could you please give me any tips on how to prevent this for the future please. You might need to change his food. I would definately talk to your vet first, but sometimes some foods just don't agree with some dogs. Amos could not eat Eukanuba when he was a puppy. It made him so constipated he started throwing up!! :( You can also ask your vet about giving him a little bit of milk or yogurt. Lactose really helps to break up a dog's stool. But please, ask your vet what he/she thinks before you try either of these things, as I am not a vet and they will know what is best for your dog. These are just things that worked for me. :) Good luck and I hope your baby feels better! |
if your kid is constipated get pure pumkin (not pumpkin pie mix) give him a tablespoon 3 times in one day...that should clear him up. If he is young and straining, really needs to go... if you have a syringe fill it with warm water and inject it in his bum that should work in about 5-10 mins if not do it again within 15 mins. If that doesnt work get him to the vet for a check up. hope this helps |
Young puppies can become constipated because they don't stop and drink water often enough. Anything you can do to encourage more fluid will be helpful. I hate to recommend canned dog food because it can be so devastating to their teeth, but that may be a way to go. We give baby carrots as chew toys and they're full of moisture. Canned pumpkin, or any kind of cooked non-starchy vegetable will help also. I would recommend soaking the dry food, but I recently read an article that that's not such a good idea. We actually feed a raw, home-made diet and don't have this problem or diarrhea for that matter, ever. Any kind of digestive problem can be very serious in a young Yorkie puppy, so you're so very smart for staying on top of it. CJ |
Constipation Thank you so much for all your advice. I would so love to write more but Harley seems to be barking up a storm as I'm typing and he's attacking my fingers in the process. I think he knows we've been discussing his personal issues online...lol! |
