Pet Insurance....for luxating patella surgery. Well Uno's luxating patella problem seems to be getting worse. We found out about a week and a half ago he has luxating patellas. He has had 4 episodes of his hind left leg going lame, yelping in pain, and hobbling within the last week. Surgery was quoted at just under $1000. I'm 23, in grad school and don't have a job because of my school load. My question is.... How many of you out there have pet insurance? Does it help? What's the best kind? Any personal stories of surgeries/etc to share and how insurance helped out majorly? the only thing is now it would most likely be considered a pre-existing condition. Anyone know of a pet insurance that covers pre-existing? Lost, confused, and want to help fix my baby. -Britt |
Sorry to hear about your baby. to answer your question first, pet insurance will not cover lp regardless of pre-existing or new delvelopment. We went thru the surgery for Hot Rod. Under a $1000.00 is a great price however, I would strongly advise that you make sure the surgeon is well versed in this surgery. Make sure that he is board certified and ask him how many surgeries he does in a week. I would highly recommend that you make sure that you feel comfortable with him/her. Look into opions...physical therapy might be an option-seek medical opinion. We wound up getting Care Credit to be able to stretch the payments. Our surgery was just under $2000.00. Feel free to pm with any questions. Been there, done that, don't want to go thru it again-especially for the same knee! Good luck! |
Embrace is the only insurance I ever found that would cover LP surgery, but only if it was not preexisting, or not diagnosed, at the time your policy took effect. |
Embrace does cover LP, and would have covered the surgery - but not now that's its a known issue. No insurance policy, for humans or animals, can be purchased after and due to an illness being discovered. |

Well his knee is giving out at least 1x a day now. I will just have to hope they will do a payment plan for me. I'm so nervous for it...I just wish he had never had this happen... I just fear about something bad happening during or after surgery :( Has anyone experienced a really horrible LP surgery? |
