Worried about a lump... So, I got Bella cut much shorter on her body this past trip to the groomer and now I've noticed a quarter size lump on her back - on the right side closer to her butt than her shoulder. You can't really see it visibly unless you were really close and looking for it, but you can feel it when you pet her. It's not round- it's an odd shape and somewhat flat- sort of feels like the skin there is thicker. It doesn't move and doesn't seem like it is causing her any pain or discomfort. She is running about and healthy, but I'm still really concerned. I made an appointment for the vet for Friday morning to have her checked out. I don't know if it could be scar tissue from some early incident? or could it be a tumor? I really hope it isn't serious. I am not aware of any trauma to that area. I did a seach of older threads and it seems like people have found lumps after shots. I have had Bella since April and she got up to date on shots from the rescue back in April. Actually- she did get a steroid shot in her back in late July when the emergency vet thought incorrectly that she had degenerative disk disease... could that be why she has a thickening of her skin? I don't even know if that's the spot where she got the injection. Would it be hard and not moving like that? Would it still be there over a month later? Anyone have any ideas for me? |
Could be from Rabies shots. That's usu where they inject it. Princess has a big lump & instead of getting smaller, it's getting bigger, but our vet said not to worry. How can I not...it doesn't seem to bother her either. |

I hope it is just something benign like from a shot. I totally understand you still worrying about Princess's lump since it is getting larger- I guess if it is a common reaction for them to get it after shots and if the vet has seen that it doesn't cause problems even long term, but it still seems unsettling. I don't think I'll be able to relax about this unless I know what it is that is causing it. I really hope my vet is able to give me some explanation. |
Hopefully it is either from a past shot or just a little fatty growth. I agree I would feel better having my vet look at it. Keep us posted. |

I took Bella to the vet on Friday and he said just to watch the lump to see if it changes. He didn't think it needed to be removed or that it seemed like a cancerous growth. So, I guess I'm glad I took her in to be checked out, but it still seems like I didn't gain a lot of information. I just hope it doesn't cause or indicate any big health issues. I'll continue to watch it. Thanks for all your responses- it does put my mind at ease somewhat just to know that there are so many others out there who have babies with lumps that don't seem to be causing problems for them. |
I am new to this site, but thank goodness I found it. As I sit here, I am crying. But after reading some of the post, I am slowing calming down. I found a lump on the back of my 4 year old 3lb Pebbles last night. I thought that it was the way that she was standing or something. I keep rubbing it, to check if I was really feeling what I thought I was. Because it was very late, I just thought I was imaging it. But today, I was again confronted with this lump and I was so scared. I was on my way to the emergency animal hospital and thought to first check the net. Now that I am reading this thread, I realize that maybe it was the rabies shot, I took her on Saturday. I am still very concerned. But I instead of going to the er tonight, I'll wait and call her vet first thing in the morning. I was not even thinking about the shots possibly causing this. It has never happened before. I can breathe a little sigh, to think that it's that instead of a tumor as I was thinking. Thanks |
