Not being himself My 9 mo. Old male is not running and playing, this is not like him, has runny stools but just started last night and not eat very good, any ideas. I told my wife that maybe we should wait and see how he is doing tomorrow before running to vet, he is drinking water |
It's obvious he's not feeling well. Yorkie's do get stomach upset's from time to time. Perhaps he got into something when you weren't looking. If he's not throwing up or having any other serious sympthoms I would wait it out until tomorrow. Loose stools can come from many different things. Has his food been changed? Did he eat something he has not had before? If you do take him in tomorrow make sure you take a stool sample with you. He could have parasites. This happens from time to time also and they can also cause loose stools. Keep us informed. |
thank you for replying, he was outside in the yard alot yesterday |

He probably ingested something. If he's not throwing up and is somewhat active I would wait it out. Keep a close eye on him. Any change for the worst I would call the vet immediately. |
If he's not throwing up, I'd advice u to keep an eye on him and feed him chicken soup or chicken and rice. It seems like he ate something he shouldn't have but if he's not throwing up..its not blocked in his intestine/stomach. Just taking its time to pass through.. If he throws up, I'd take him to the vet because it could be a blockage. Just keep an eye on him and lots of water. Hope I helped :). |
Yep rice and even the water from it is good for runny pooh or diarrhea! He probably ate something outside. That has happened to my angel. sleepy and sad looking with diarrhea. She had an upset tummy from something. They snap out of it but if not, rush your baby to the vet after a couple days. Pay close attention! Good luck! |
Thank all of you for your replies |

As for your pup, did you change/add anything to the diet? Did he drink any standing water or eat bird poop or anything else outside (could contain giardia)? If it continues, I'd get a stool sample. Summer bugs seem to be going around - both my boys had colitis last week and it took each about 6 days to work it through. I fed mashed potatoes for the worst 2 days of it, and that realllllllly helped a lot. Hang in there, you'll get him through this! Any better yet? |
He is doing much better, back to runnung and playing |

I was one of those who read your original post and didn't respond. My Yorkie will be 8 months old the latter part of the month and I had no advice to give! I assure you, I did read your post with concern for your pup but my time online is limited now and I didn't take the time to reply. I wanted you to know though that you were being thought of! Great news to hear that your puppy is better. I never saw his name so I can't be more personal in my response. Anyway, I hope things continue to improve during the day. Sounds like his "exploring" outside might have led him into something that didn't agree with him. |
My 2 furbabbies have an enclosed pen outside I put them in for pottying. Sometimes we have fungus growing in it. Could this be the problem? |
alot of times the advice is the same , so some people will not repeat the advice glad the dog is better |
