Staph Infections?? 2 Attachment(s) Help! I've been a member of Yorkie talk for a while now. I usually browse the forums for advice like Pee-pad training and such. But lately I've had an issue with my baby Zoey. She's almost 8 months old now and for the past 3 days she's had these break outs on/around her groin area and on her legs. At first I thought it was from her "period" because she isn't spayed. But when I tried to clean her it wouldn't come off. A closer look showed me it was a scab type thing. I'm really worried. (I'm going to call the vet tomorrow if it's not going away.) Anyone have any ideas? Is it because she's turning into a little woman? Or is it something worse? (Sorry for the real vivid pictures. Don't mean to gross anyone out. I just need some help.) :( |

Just so you don't worry too much, it doesn't look too bad :). It does kinda look like staph intermedius; it could also possibly be fungal. Sometimes a more rare yeast will look like this. Unless she has this elsewhere on her body, I doubt they'll give oral antibiotics - if they do, I'd request Simplicef if it's staph. But more likely, they'll give you an ointment and/or a spray to apply for a couple weeks. Be sure to look super close *all* over her body before you go to check for other areas (btwn toes, armpits, inside ear, all around outside ear, neck, ...separate fur and check all over). Keep us posted! :) |
I just got finished dealing with one of my girls and a staph infection.....After she had her last litter, she blew coat on her hind quarters....bumps began to appear, she was itching and scratching non stop.....Staph must be treated internally....get her to the vet. Your vet will prescribe Cefa-Drops (cefadroxil)....administered twice a day for 10 days......When we completed the meds, itching is non-existent, bumbs disappeared, and coat growing back. I had applied panalog.....vet informed me it was hot and kept the infection moist.....it had to be treated internally. |
Thanks so much for the advice guys. I'm making an appointment today. I'll let you know what happens. <3 |

we've been dealing with ringworm-and these look almost the same as the ones our girl has on her belly... |
Just checking in to see how it went at the vets. |
It was closed yesterday cause of the holiday so I made an appointment for tomorrow. From my family and friends, they're saying it seems like Staph. I hope they're right. We'll find out tomorrow at least. Also, I don't think it's Ringworm. She's not losing her hair or itching it intensely. It doesn't seem to be bothering her. It's just making me annoyed. She shouldn't have it, that's for sure. :( |
Staph infection can be caused from a few things, one of which is hormonal abnormalities. Ask your Vet. about this. If you don't show these dogs, I'd strongly suggest having her spayed. She may be in a weakened immune state as well and if she is, she should not be bred. |

In looking at your pictures, I don\'t really see the red lesions with scab that usually implies staph. To me it looks more like a fungal infection. But then again, it could just be my vision. Lol I am not very good with computer-photos. Whatever, I am sure the vet will be able to initiate a regime that will clear it right up. Don\'t worry! |
My one year old has the same thing, but it doesnt look as bad as that. I thought it was just because she just had her first heat cycle. |
My 9 year old dog Barney has had staph infections a couple of times. The most recent staph was treated with Simplecef orally for ten days. I have to say that Barney\'s staph infection looks a little different than those lesions in your picture. His are larger and darker. Good luck! |
My 5 month old Tootsie Anne was just treated for Staph infection too...She was given oral tablets of Cephalexin for 10 days. Her skin looked different though hers looked like little pimples in her little area!!! Her itching decrease greatly within the first 24 hours of taking the antibiotics. :animal-pa |
