puppy very sick I just got Rocky 4 days ago. i brought him to the vet right from the breeder and they checked his stool and it was clean, although he had diareah when we got there. said it was just stress. the next day i brought him back again, still diareah and gave him antibiotics. Yesterday he vomited and i brought him right in and he crashed in the office and gave him some sugar. ( he was getting nutra cal several times a day since i got him too) they sent me to the 24 hour hospital and they admitted him. his sugar is stable, they immediately found a very bad coccidia infection and they are treating him and he is getting fluids. He is not eating and im really concerned for he is now 15oz at 9 weeks. they are even offering him canned food ...but still not eating and he is very weak. I called the breeder and they said...too bad you bought him! what nerve. but i am sure if i brought him back that they would just let him die. pray for him |

Coccidia is very common, I am glad he is at the Hospital. I know alot of pups like Cesaers canned dog food, so maybe get that. Or boil some lean chicken breast (drain and save some of the broth) - boil some rice or noodles and mix together with the shredded chicken and broth, he may like that :) |
Praying for little Rocky... |
aww thats a shame, I sure hope he gets better soon. Who did you get him from? I'll be saying lots of prayers for your little Rocky. |
I am so sorry. You can treat the coccidia and keep an eye on his sugar levels. Once they stabilize him and you bring him home the key is to getting him to eat every 3-4 hours even during the night until he is a little bigger and eating better on his own. My Cali was the same way and I would sit on the floor and beg her to eat. She would eat the cesars so that's what she got until I could safely switch her over. Now she is a little chow hound at 4 years old. You did everything right by bringing him in to the vets each time and once they get him feeling better he will be home with you. Unfortunately the Breeder sounds like a uncaring person and you won't get much help there. Please keep us posted. |
i brought him from someones home. they woman claims that she just moved from texas to Nj and sold the parents because her new home will not let her have dogs. she showed me pictures and keep the puppies till they were 9 weeks. probably lying of course. im going to bring him chicken in a little while...hopefully he eats it. ill pick up the canned food also . wish me luck...thanks all keep praying for Rocky:( |
aww...my heart aches for you, been there.....just keep doing what the vet tells you. Keep him hydrated. |

Sorry to hear about your little guy. I hope he is feeling better soon. I agree to continue to try to get him to eat around the clock. |
Is the vet trying to force feed him? That's what my vet did with Bijou on Wednesday. Well, that's what they called it, but it was opening her mouth and putting canned food on the middle of her tongue. Please, let us know how he is. |
Whatever it takes My thoughts and prayers are with you and your little one. I went through very much the same thing with my little guy. We got home from getting him on a Wednesday night he crashed on Thursday morning and was rushed to the vet. The vet told us what ever it took to get him to eat do it. Saturday night we had steak for dinner I (sorry) chewed up a piece put him in the middle of the table and he ate it like he had been eating on his own forever!! After that he started eating with the others and has been doing great eating since. It's like a light went on for him. I also use Little Ceasars Filet Mignon the seem to like it. Let us know how he is doing. |
I found the beef cesear was mine's favorite. Hope he will eat for you. |
The same thing happened to my little guy in July. He had coccida and was being treated for it and then developed a second parasite. He was 11 weeks and only weighed 1.1. He was real sick but after his hospital stay I never left him and feed him every 3 hours. He too won't eat so I hand feed him for 2 months. Now he is a healthy 2.1lb little boy. Now my vet says he is too full and to feed him only 3 times a day with hard food out all the time. That has been working well for him. I use two foods both soft and hard. Wellness and Innova because he is sooooo picky. When all else fails he will eat his wellness puppy cookies. He might be a tad spoiled :) Hope your baby feels better soon. I know its hard now but with the proper care you'll little one will be running around enjoying puppyhood before you know it. |
He's eating we went for visiting hours at the hospital. i brought him boiled chicken in broth and 4 different kinds of Ceasars. the vet said he was much better than this morning but still did not eat as of 12 noon. he was licking the canned food when we were there but didnt eat it. The vet called just a little while ago to let me know that HE IS EATING a bit. YIPPIE!!! i am so happy. they will keep him again tonight and as long as he keeps it down and is eating more than he can come home tomorrow. I am so thrilled with his treatment there and i really did not think he was going to make it. Prayer works and so does the Ceasars!!! thank you all ! ill keep you posted ____________________________________________ Felicity:aimeeyork Daisy:aimeeyork Rocky:aimeeyork |
