Need some help / advice :( We've had our yorkie for about two weeks now and she's been acting like a normal puppy until yesterday afternoon. She threw-up in her cage and has had a little diarrhea. She's not eating and seems to be very weak because I put her in front of the food bowl this morning and she fell over. All she wants to do is crawl up in a ball and sleep. She doesn't even want to pick her head up. Do I give it another day or take her to the animal hospital today ?? |
DON'T WAIT!!!! You must take her to the emergency vet right away. Are you giving her karo syrup or nutrical? Her sugar might have dropped and this could be very dangerous. Also it might be some type of parasite it might be helpful to bring a stool sample with you when you go. This happened to my little guy and they can get pretty sick quickly. That is why you have to act fast. Hope your baby feels better soon. |
Oh, yes, please take her in today. One tip - don't try to feed when they're throwing up. |
No karo syrup or nutrical at this time. My wife & I are new yorkie owners and really don't know anything about them. Our breeder just said that yorkie's need iron from time to time..."Bell" has a appointment next Tuesday at the vet, but, I don't think we can wait.. |
How is she doing now? Check her gums what color are they? I heard you can use a little pancake syrup to get her sugar up as well. |
Welcome to YT!! I wouldn't wait!! sounds like she is hypoglycemic...You really should have some nutrical on hand. Karo works also. I would go out and get some and...I wouldn't wait to bring her to the vet...it could be to late. |
Any updates on your baby? I agree you have to have the Nutri Cal. It saved my babies life on just this past Wednesday. She broke her little leg on Tuesday evening and on Wednesday morning her gums were white. I gave her a double dose of Nutri Cal and rushed to the vet's. Within the ten minute ride there the gums were pink again. You can get it at petstores and it's only like $8 to $10. I have been giving it once a day since we got Bijou last Friday and after the injury I give it twice or more if needed. |
Belle Hi All, Thanks for all the advise. We took Belle to the vet this morning and she was hypoglycemic. They gave her some special moist fatty puppy food that she gobbled up and Nutrical and she is much better now. She isn't eating much, right now, but she is acting much better. :aimeeyork:) |
Yah! Great news, thank you for the update. |

Glad you took her in. Once they go hypoglycemic you have to watch closely that they don't again. Make sure she is eating every 3-4 hours even feed her at night. They can go down so fast and just being aware of what to watch for, how to prevent it and correct it if necessary really is the difference between life and death sometimes. Welcome and can't wait to see pictures. |
pedialyte, karo syrup, honey and nutrical have those all on hand -- also were the parents bile acid tested? Hypoglycemia and liver shunt do go hand in hand so just want to make sure the parents were bile acid tested as it runs so ramped in this breed |
