I thought Emmett was going to die :( Last night I saw Emmett chewing on something. I got it away from him, and when I realized what it was my heart just about stopped. It was on of thosse OFF mosquito coils. He had taken it and chewed it to pieces. My mom had left it sitting under the coffee table in a bowl (which I am so angry about). I immediately called poison control, and they said they could not help me; that I had to either call animal poison control (and pay the $45 fee) or an emergency hospital. I called all the Emergency hospitals in my area and they all said I had to wither bring him in or call animal poison control, they would not help me over the phone. So, I called animal poison control and paid the fee. I will do anything for my baby boy. All they could tell me was that I needed to try to induce vomiting by giving him a teaspoon of peroxide, wait ten minutes, then give him two teaspoons. They said not to give him more than that or that could poison him too. They said he could have fatigue, trouble breathing, depression, vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, and even seizures. Emmett never puked it up, but he was more lethargic than usual. I made sure he kept drinking his water and I stayed up all night watching him breathe. I was so scared, but it has been 24 hours since and he has had no ill effects. I was so scared. I guess I don't have to worry anymore, but I am still watching him like a hawk. |
First, I am so relieved that Emmett is going to be ok! Thanks to a Loving Mommie, he got the care he needed quickly. I'm so sorry for you & Emmett to go through this. It had to be so scary!! Sending Hugs! Hope that he continues to feel better!!;) |
What a scare! They can get in to things, can't they? You would think they would not want to chew on something with repellent smell on it. I am so glad to hear he made it through the night with no ill effects. I don't understand why animal poison control has to charge $45 just for a call like that! If people poison control can give info for free, then they should too be able to also. They could always get pet product companies to sponsor and make you listen to an advertising recording while they looked it up or something. Ah well, the important thing is your little one is okay! |
OMGoodness! How scary...WHY do they eat stuff like that?? Does it even taste good?? I have one here that eats anything too. Momo has eaten a Queen palm tree seed when he was a pup & we had to have (a very expensive) surgery to remove it! I'm so glad Emmit is doing ok...I know how much these little guys can scare us, but we have to do everything to keep them safe...we love them too much!:) |
I am so glad to hear that Emmett is ok. I know how terrifed you must have felt. I have one that will eat anything she finds. |
Thank goodness you found him chewing on it when you did! That must've been terrifying. I'm so happy he is feeling ok. |
How scary!!!! I'm glad to hear that Emmett hasn't shown any ill effects from this and hope everything continues to be fine!!! |
I'm glad that Emmett is going to be okay. You must have been so scared! |
How scary! I'm glad he is gonna be okay! |
Thank you everyone for your kind words! Emmett is still fine, and is as hyper as usual. I don't know why some of our babies like to eat nasty things. Always watch out for things that could be dangerous to them. |
Glad Emmett is doing ok. It amazes em what they will eat yet won't eat certain dog foods!! |
So glad to hear Emmett is doing well ... |
So glad Emmett is doing well and you reacted so quickly! Is he going to the bathroom ok? The only other thing I'd worry about is if it causes a blockage due to ingestion of the plastic. ((((((Hugs))))))) |
