Lorelai has a hacking cough Hi everyone, so my baby who is 5 months has a horrible sounding cough that usually ends with the sound of her like hacking up a hairball or something...just like a cat. I have had her evaluated by 3 vets and they say she is fine. They did an xray and everything is fine. My other girl hasn't caught anything, so that is basically their way of ruling out kennel cough I guess. She has had this for the past 6-8 weeks and has been on clavomox since. Shes still super active, eats, drinks and poops...I notice it mostly when she plays really hard and during the night. It's not getting better and I'm not sure what else to do seeing all the vets think nothing is wrong. any suggestions? If you have seen the youtube video with the bulldog that is labeled having kennel cough...she sounds just like it. but if she does have it, why is my other baby not catching anything. Oh and this other baby has had batril (spelling?) the kennel cough med before, would this prevent her from catching it?? PLEASE HELP!! |
Did she have the kennel cough (bordatella) vaccine 6-8 weeks ago? If yes, it really would make me think she does have it...and it *can* take weeks-months to get rid of it for some dogs. As for your other dog, is she older and/or vaccinated against KC? That may be why she isn't getting it (if that's what this is). The other thing though is that you said it happens upon exercise and/or at night - so, that could be reverse sneezing, a narrowed trachea, a soft palate irregularity...or collapsed trachea (but not sure it sounds like the last one based on what you've said). When it happens at night, was she snoring beforehand? If yes, it could be a soft palate issue... |

Do you board your dogs or take them to the groomer...is that why you get the KC vaccine? If not, you don't even need to get it. :) |
Lily coughing Lily is 4 months, she has been coughing for more than 2 weeks. I took her to the vet a last week and the vet gave her antibiotics and a medicine for cough He was thinking that she was with kennel cough but he wanst sure. She has been on the medicine for week and she didn't get any better. I'm taking her to the vet again tomorrow. I'm really worried she coughs more than 10 times a day, mostly in the morning and at night. Can she have collapse of trachea at this age? |
Do you use a collar or harness? Minnie had tht problem but it was no where near as bad as what your saying. She had tracheal irritation and was put on Clavamox and it cleared up really quick. Needless to say we only use harnesses now. |

Sounds like what my little guy did and he was diagnosed with Collapsing Trachea. Being so young I am not certain this could be the problem, but it is just a thought. Prayers coming your way!! |
Gizmo had this and we had him rushed to the ER. IT was kennel cough. FYI .5ccs of Robotussin DM Adult can be given max 3 times a day. Gizmo was given that as well as Clarvomax. He's been off of the antibiotics for two days and has been doing good, however this is his second round. Good luck to you! |
We went to the vet, he gave other medicine hydrocodone. She is not getting spay until this go away. Thank you guys |
Same issues with my yorkie poo! Hi I hope this reaches you I know this was awhile ago..but I came across your thread by searching online. My yorkie poo is going on 5 months old and had the EXACT issues you had, been to vet 3x for it, been on clavamox, now recommends X-rays. I was just wondering what the outcome of your situation was? Please help! Thank you! |
