yorkie leaving puddles hi all, This is my first post here.. I just now found this site while searching for answers. My yorkie who is only 3 years old is leaving puddles while she is sleeping. She sleeps with me and i wake up in water. She's only been doing this the last week or two. as you can imagine I'm not getting any sleep because when she gets too wet she moves to another spot on the bed. so i end up waking up several times in the night laying in wet puddles. anyone have this problem or can tell me what to do ? i'm in desperate need to get some sleep but most of all help her with her issue here. Thanks in advance :) Mellee27 :) |

Hi Melle and WELCOME :)! There is no easy answer for this one, I think your baby needs to see a vet asap. It could be a UTI, but bc this is happening in her sleep, it could also be something structural or neurological. Are there *any* other symptoms she is having in addition? |

no other symptons i can see. she is acting as she always is. I am going to call the vet today to see what they say. Thanks for the reply :) |

So, she's not drinking more than usual? And, you don't notice increased frequency in peeing when she is awake? I hope all is okay, so glad you're going to the vet - and please let us know what happens! :) |

she is drinking normally and she is peeing normally .. nothing unusual.. same disposition and all.. it's just the at night waking up in puddles of water.. its so much is seeps thru our comforter and sheets.. not a good feeling to roll over and land in a cold wet spot .. lol I do hope its not serious.. |

You may want to get her checked for diabetes. Our friends' daughter has diabetes and that was the first symptom, wetting the bed. Maybe it can be that way with dogs, too. Who knows? I would take her to the vet in any event and get her checked out. In the meantime you might use some panties with a pad on her at night. |

I just had my first episode with this and emailed the internal medicine specialist and she said it is rare but in a small percentage of female spayed yorkies incontinence can be the culprit:( I looked up incontinence as my yorkie just peed herself and while sleeping and it says it begins in ages 3-5 so this could be it if not a uti and there is a pill for it and it is an easy fix she said. Is your dog on steroids or anything? Here is what i would do - do blood work to rule out diabetes since someone here just mentioned it but our yorkie just had blood work done 8/4 and all was perfect, have culture and urinalysis as this is what internal medicine specialist said to have done and i like free catch rather than needle to bladder but ims said do needle in bladder as more sterile catch and if neither of these things you may have to do the incontinent pills as my gut is that is what your dog has -- now with mine today she peed 3 times in 2 hrs not drinking any water at a yorkie meet up and a few other owners said not normal probably uti so going to do culture and urinalysis to see as she has a staph infection and she is on temarilp which makes them produce more urine than a normal dog so leaning toward uti with her. |
