Help! 5 ticks in less than a week! I have found 5 ticks on my year and half year old Moose in less than a week! This is the first time I've ever found a tick on him, but since the first one I've started looking more and now I've found 5!! I use Revolution topical for him since he is so small, 4lbs. The chewable forms are too big for him. I am worried about the disease potential of these ticks! I am also worried about doing a "flea and tick" dip as I've heard that these are just chemical bug bombs and think that might be dangerous for such a small dog. Any natural remedies for getting rid of ticks? My other question..where is he getting them? Moose has luxating patella so we haven't been taking him outside as much (only 2 or 3 times a week) so his knee can rest before we decide on surgery or no surgery. So how could he be getting this many ticks from so little time outside?! Are they multiplying inside my house? Yuck! Please help if you've had experience!! Thannk you!:) |
We live out in the country and we started using minksheen shampoo because we could not give Bella MIa her flea medicine. We have not had to start the flea medicine back up as it seems the shampoo is actually doing the trick. I order it from Westbrookdog.com. Try www.dogsandticks.com for more information |
Right now is HIGH tick season. I could be wrong, but I didn't think Revolution does anything for ticks  |
I use Frontline Plus and I have found one or two on mine too. Is it our Florida weather and all the rain too? Mine have a doggy door and a small ramp that leads to a dog run. They go in and out all day. I have to check mine everyday. I hate it too to see one on mine. |
Revolution (selamectin) stops fleas and prevents heartworms. it says for american dog tick? not sure if that is the same ticks in your area as i know there are deer ticks which carry lyme disease -- do you have those in your area? |

Ticks are very common in the city and the country! Please don't stop walking your dog because of this! If you do a tick check after every walk you will eliminate any chance of lyme disease. If the tick is removed right away it will not have the time to do any damage to your pup. Dogs need exercise, don't let the threat of ticks stop you! |
I don't believe Lyme's disease is found in FL, but I do know that humans can get it from just a bite from the deer tick. It does not have to live on you for a period of time. I lived in NJ for years and hated those things. They are tiny and very hard to see and you can be bitten without even knowing it! I would think it is the same for dogs. Speak with your vet about Advantix...it covers fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. I really do not know much about it. I have not had a tick problem here in TX. |
We went to the vet immeadiately and bought Vextra, which is guaranteed to kill ALL ticks within 24 hours of application and is a tick preventitive. I put it on him 2 weeks ago and guess what...I found 2 ticks on him 2 days ago! AND... I found 3 swollen, blood filled ticks in his bed!!! And today I found another one!! I'm at such a loss of what to do?! |
