Milli-throwing up Milli has been throwing up since Sunday night. She is acting normally-eating, drinking, peeing, pooping, playing, went on a 3 mile walk tonight, etc. She eats, and then throws up 4-5 hours later. She eats a homecooked diet, so I switched to a bland diet-banana & cheerios, and she threw that up. Then I gave her nothing but she started eating off Emma's plate, so I caved and gave her cheerios-which she later puked up again. DH said she was better, so I made an appointment for the AM anyway, but fed her dinner around 6 pm hoping he was right. She just threw up again. Any thoughts? I hope it's just a tummy bug...but I'm scared. |
Anyone? |
did she get into anything? possible blockage? If not then i would rest her tummy for 12-24 hrs and just give water as fasting sometimes lets the stomach and intestines rest. What do you feed in your homecooked diet? Yorkies tend to have sensitive stomachs and many have ibd so hopefully you are not cooking white potato or any inflammatory foods in the diet as that can inflame the intestines so the food does not digest and comes back up -- vomitting is more of an issue in the small intestines - is bile coming up only or is there food? if food she is not digesting out of the small intestines so it is getting backed up in the small intestines because it is inflamed -- any diarhea ? |
Thanks dwerten! I doubt she got into anything...I tried to rest her tummy and she WANTS to eat. Strange little girl! I typically feed a meat, carb, and veggie-she was eating tilapia/rice/carrot over the weekend, and then Sunday we switched to pasta/turkey/peas & carrots. I stay away from white potato completely with my girls-I do rice, oats, barley and pasta and they have always done fine. Emma is fine-so I don't think it's the food. No diarrhea at all, normal solid poops. Bile is coming up with the food. Oh, and she has been drinking water normally as well-don't know if I said that? I will keep her appt with the vet in the AM and get her checked out. |
Cheerios are a big no no (grains) thats the last thing you want to put into an upset tummy. My uncles yorkie developed pancreatitis from cheerios. |
It sounds like it's vet time. I suppose it could be a blockage. And while I'm sure it's not this, that's what happened to Ellie when she had pancreatitis. It only lasted a day though. She would eat and throw up after, but she acted perfectly normal. |
Hi Suzy - sorry to hear Milli ia having problems. I would definitely have the vet check her out since it is continuing. Hopefully it is nothing major and just a little virus, but it seems strange that she is acting normal besides and Emma is okay as well. How is the little guy doing???? I'd love to see some updated photos.... |

Just got back from the vet-Milli has good ol' fashioned gastroenteritis...at least the vet is pretty sure. He can't feel anything blocking her up, and he said if there WAS a blockage, that it was very small, because she still wants to eat and is pooping ok. He believes if there IS one that she will either pass it or bring it up on her own. He gave her a shot of reglan for the nausea, hoping that will help her keep some food down soon. We brought home reglan and something else to coat the stomach that I have to give before she eats. Also, he told me to put her on a bland diet-chicken and rice or beef and rice with green beans, and run it through a food processor first. If she's not better in a day or two, we'll go back and get an x-ray to rule out a blockage. Thanks to everyone for their advice & thoughts! |
