Luna has bloody pee :( I am assuming this is a UTI and I will be taking her to the vet tomorrow. Anyone have experience with this? Are there any do's and don't do's? She is acting perfectly fine and normal. I have been trying to get a urine sample and have not been able to, she is too well housebroken lol. Gonna try to get her to pee on the pee pad tomorrow morning, wish me luck! I tried searching the forums and you should see what ridiculous threads my search brought up! Thanks! |
It could be UTI or Kidney stones...both bring on the same symptoms. Good luck on getting a urine sample. |
When I had to get a urine sample I used a lid from a plastic bowl and slipped it under her when she squatted. I then took a syringe and suctioned it off the lid into the container. Its wasn't hard at all. Mine ARE pee pad trained tho so all I had to do was watch for her signs that she was going to potty. Your baby might be a little more difficult if she goes outside. I hope she is feeling better soon and its nothing serious! |
You mgiht be able to put something under her when she squats outside. If you can't get one, the vet can take one. |
So glad your little Luna is not in any pain . Hopefully you will be sucessful in obtaining a urine sample. I hope Luna will be ok. |
Thanks everyone :) Took her to the vet. I could not get a sample and neither could they. They gave antibiotics and want me to try to get a urine sample later today. Since she is so young he didn't think it was stones. He is leaning towards infection or a congenital defect. Lets cross our fingers! |
i wouldn't start the ABs before catching some urine because it will change the results. if she is pee pad trained try turning over the pad and get her to pee on that. you don't want the pad to absorb it. its hard getting a urine sample from little dogs because they pee so low to the ground. you can try a plastic container lid as mentioned before, some tin foil bent into a little bowl formation, a ladle/spoon or just hope she pees on teh floor and you can suck it up with a syringe. i was a vet tech and had to catch a lot of pee. LOL what i would do is take them outside on a leash and follow right behind them until they squatted. then i'd stick a tiny bowl underneath them to catch the pee. |

Definately something to be concerned about. I hope everything is going well! Keep us updated! |
Ok, the vet said the urine had a lot of white blood cells (infecion) and some crystals. Hmmm. He thinks the crystals formed while the urine was sitting, but is something we need to watch for. I am thinking after she finished the antibiotics (2 weeks) I will see if one of my marine bio friends will take a looksy at her urine on one of their fancy microscopes. If there is anything I of course would take her back to the vet to discuss stones. I know that urine did not 'sit' at my place, and I would hope that it wouldn't sit at the vet office either... |
