You don't need to use organic.
Just the regular grocery store. Libby's brand is very popular. It is just pure pumpkin with no spices. It doesn't always have the desired affect though. It can cause stool to become softer.
I always use organic first then regular if none available as they have such tiny bodies so prefer organic for everything

Hmm, the dog food most people feed is far from organic, so I'm not sure that it really matters.

lol i feed organic newman's own to my maltese - i just always buy organic vegetables, pumpkin, etc - try to when i can but you are right most dog foods are not that great sadly :( i use regular only if i cannot get organic for mine

I don't think her stool can become much softer, It's like a running faucet. I stopped at the vet tonite and she's back on Flagyl for 10 days. I also have her now on Liver food (Purina NF). IN two weeks he will test her kidneys again to see if they normalized. No more vomiting so that's good.

Took in a stool sample (high bacteria); they are telling me Infamed intestines and that's why the bloody stool. Also took a urine sample in, will know about that in 24 hrs.

I pray she will get back to her normal healthy self.

So, I'm confused.
If she did well on the I/D, why not use it again and see if it works without meds? And if you have to go back to meds until you get a diagnosis, that's okay. What bloodwork specific to the intestines has been done?

How sad. :(

I think the rx diet is good. Obviously something has to be done.
You may need to go to one specifically made for the intestines though.
Has a TLI or anything of the sort been done or just routine bloodwork?
They were thinking giardia before, but did they ever diagnose it for sure?

I'm confused too......The I/D worked and so did the hamb/rice for the first week, then it switched to liquid poo again. When on the ID she would vomit though. First the blood in her stool is a bright pink, then today it's a dark pink. Gets more confusing as the days go on. Back on the Flagyl which will help with diarrhea for 10 days........then will have to see what happens on the 11th day; esp. with the new food.

They don't recommended the Purina ha (more for the intestines), as the protein is too high. Can't have protein with kidney problems.

Only routine blood work (chem panels) were done. The fecal they did.......all she said was that there was a lot of bacteria. I will be going there again tomorrow to drop off the urine and I will ask if they checked for parasites also. I WOULD like that ruled out! She does NOT scoot though.

Is it yellow jelly poop with blood in it? that is colitis -- ibd and colitis is from inflamed intestines

what purina ha is a soy based diet one of the lowest protein diets you can do and the id has pork in it and pork is a fatty food. The purina ha is perfect for ibd and a liver compromised dog -- I think your vet is confused ?? purina ha is 18% protein and 8% fat - soy and fish are the lowest proteins

NF is a kidney diet and her creatinine is not elevated so why a kidney diet -- really questioning this vet sorry :( if bun is elevated it is due to dehydration if creatinine normal then no need to worry about kidneys -- urine will tell more about kidney function as well so let's see what happens but i really do not think your dog needs a kidney food from a elevated bun -- my maltese had that figure on her bun and she is fine and i had jean dodds review blood work and she said it was dehydration and she has studied blood work for 42 years

if you want to get a second opinion on blood work you can always email to dr jean dodds at HEMOPET a full animal blood bank, Diagnostic Laboratory, Adoption and Consultation she is excellent with blood work and i am not feeling comfortable with you vet at this poin as sounds like ibd or colitis and due to diarhea your dog is dehydrated as diarhea will dehydrate a dog much faster than vomitting

HA isn't high in protein at all and I wasn't thinking last night that the N/F was a kidney diet. I think I'd want a second opinion now. The BUN isn't that high and it doesn't seem like they are being very thorough with the intestinal issues. Maybe I'm missing something, but something just doesn't sound right.

yep have to agree here they are rushing too quick into scaring you about kidney issues when it is only a high bun sounds odd
