Sick after rabies shot So I took Winston to the Vet today to get the rabies vaccine. They gave it to him at about noon. At 4pm he started puking and puked like 7-8 times in a 30 minute time period. I immediately called the vet and they told me not to let him eat anything else today and give him a little water and start giving him pedialite. I am giving it to him through a syringe since he won't drink it on his own. I feel so bad. He just lays there all cuddled up next to his porcupine toy and doesn't want to be near anyone. Please say your prayers for him. I am sure he will be ok but I feel like a horrible mommy :( Oh btw...I posted this under the wrong forum so if you already read this there I apologize. |
worried for your little one :( Very sorry to read that your baby is having a reaction. Hopefully he will be OK. I have yet to give my furbaby 9 months old, the rabies shot, I fear the side effects and would not doubt a lot of the liver, pancreas problems some of the yorkies I read about on here may be caused by these inmunizations, but that is just my thoughts. Perhaps if you get your furbaby a jar of chicken baby food, you can give him a teaspoon, just so that he will have some food in his tummy. Or perhaps others with more experience can guide you. Best of luck. Will check back in a bit. |
Well I think I will hold off on giving him anything to eat right now since the vet said no food. I know I won't sleep though so if he seems to be feeling better in the wee hours of the morning I might just give him some baby food or something like that. Thanks for the advice ;) |
Poor baby. I hope he feels better soon. |
I hope your Winston is better soon.....vomiting is one of the many reactions with this vaccine......The rabies vaccine has the highest risk for reactions ..... Once this happens the risk sometimes increases with the next one..... Report any reactions you believe might be linked to any shot to your vet immediately. Make sure it goes in your dog's file and get a copy. You may someday need to apply for a vaccination exemption. Be sure lot number and the name of vaccine manufacturer is written on the chart. Contact the vaccine manufacturer, with the lot number..... On-line reporting form: https://web01.aphis.usda.gov/CVB/adv...0Form?OpenForm You'll need to get a lot of the information from your vet. Do not expect your vet to submit the report. Underreporting is commonplace. This might have some helpful info for you.... Vaccinating Dogs: What Your Vet Hasn't Told You |

He's feelin' better!!! So Winston is doing much much better this morning. He was able to start eating last night and hold it down and the pedialite was his savior. His poo is a little runny today but no other problems besides that. He is wagging his tail and running around and playing. If you saw him today you would never know that he was very sick last night. Thank you all for your support and kind words. Winston sends his puppy kisses to you :p |
