Ate small dose of dried Garlic & dried Onion My 3 pound, 6 mo old yorkie just ate a bite-size piece of lettuce (grabbed it out of the trash while my back was turned) with ceasar dressing on it (which has as an ingredient dried garlic and dried onion in the dressing). I've read where this is toxic to small dogs - new "mommie" - should I be freaked?? I grabbed what I could out of his mouth so he only got a small bite. Thanks. |
The amount of garlic found in food and snacks is not toxic to dogs, it's just that because a dog would consume a whole bottle of garlic powder, if given a chance, garlic had to be placed on the poison list, as a large amount could make them very sick. Onions, on the other hand, are much more toxic, but it would take more than the amount found in dressing. The oil found in dressing could cause a little bit of tummy upset, but nothing serious. This is a good lesson though, and I recommend a trashcan with a lid, or keeping trash behind closed doors. There are certain foods, that really could do harm, especially fatty foods, and cooked bones. |

How much do you think he ate? Tablespoon? Teaspoon?? |
Thanks for the replies. I believe you're both correct from what I've been able to Google, etc. He had no more than a lick of dressing. We'll keep an eye on him. Thanks again! |
No worries. :) |
