Throwing up everything, but is acting normal My yorkie, Chuck (9 years old, 11lbs) has been throwing up just about everything he eats for the past 2 days. Yet he is acting just fine, he doesn't act sick. He's still energetic, wants to play, and he still wants food. He's had pancreatitis twice in the past 2 years. But I don't think that's it because he's not showing the same symptoms. I called the ER vet and she said it sounds like it could be a bowel obstruction. Both his #1 and #2 look normal when I take him out. But the last time I took him out, he tried to go #2, and it was like he thought he went even though he didn't go at all. Nothing came out. Has anyone else experienced their dog having a bowel obstruction? If so, did they act lethargic or normal? If he doesn't get better by tomorrow I'm taking him to the vet. |
If the ER vet suspects a bowel obstruction, I would take him there now and not wait until tomorrow. He needs xrays to determine if his bowel is blocked and perhaps even surgery. This is a potentially life threatening condition and must be treated quickly. |
In the last 5 hours, he has eaten a bowl of food and pooped a lot. It was normal. I probably should have mentioned that my husband and I are moving, so the last couple weeks have been crazy with all the packing and boxes.. they (Chuck and Zoey, our 2 yorkies) know something's up. And Chuck has been very clingy to me and all he wants to do is cuddle. My husband thinks it's just nerves about the change, he doesn't know what's going on. And for things to change after they've been the same for 5 years, I suppose it could be enough to make a nervous dog sick. He is still acting normal. His stomach doesn't feel tight, it's not grumbly or anything. I'll continue to keep an eye out, but if he can keep eating and pooping, I'm not going to concern myself unless his behavior drastically changes. |
I think if a dog throws up just about everything it eats for two days, it needs to see a vet immediately. It concerns me that he has had pancreatitis in the past. My dog had pancreatitis and she acted just exactly how he is acting. She just couldn't hold anything down but acted completely normal otherwise. |
How is he doing? Any more vomit? Hope it was just a "spell". |
He hasn't vomited in the last 24 hours, he's pooped once, but hasn't eaten anything out of his food bowl. He will, however, eat any treats I give him. One strange thing though, last night he pooped in the house right in front of us like it was nothing! He never does that, so maybe it is just nerves with us packing up to move? I hate to say it, but I really cannot afford to take him to the vet right now. I know that sounds awful, and I'm hoping this is just a spell that blows over. I think he thinks we're leaving him, so he's acting out to make us stay? I never underestimate the intelligence of a dog, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case. I've heard of other dogs acting like this during a big change. I will keep reading replies and posting updates! |
Well it sounds like good news. and do not worry if someone judges you ... you gotta do what you gotta do ! Life is not always easy and most of the time you have no control over it so... Keep posting , i am sure people will help the best they can. If eating treats ... that is a good start, have you tried offering food instead of the treats, for now it seems that whatever works will be better than not eating at all. Good luck in your move ! Update! Chuck is doing much better! He's eating and pooping normally. We have been home more the past 2 days and took a break from packing and he seems to be more comfortable. I'm going to try playing with him while packing, like playing with the packing paper, talking to him while I pack, etc. Maybe that will calm his nerves. In a couple weeks when we get the keys, we're going to take him to the new house so he can sniff around and get familiar with it. Thanks everyone for your advice :) |

My pup had the same thing! I took him to the vet today and he got an xray and of course, he ate part of his tennis ball. He will be pooping green fuzzies for the next day or two. Darn pups. |

I believe dogs pick up on everything. They can get nervous so easily if things change. When Jess got crate restricted due to an injury she stopped drinking out of a bowl, then wouldn't eat kibble, then tried to bury said kibble. That went away and when we go away and she is boarded for a day or two we come back and she vomits once a day for a day or two and then returns to normal. Like kids they don't like their routine changed so they act out. Not intentional just their way of saying "not liking this"!! Sounds like your pup will be fine but don't be surprised once you move if there arent more strange episodes for awhile..it goes away:smile: |
