Help!!....Hypoglycemia Help I think my pup had a hypoglycemia attack, she was sleeping on my lap, peed on me, was limp and unresponsive and cold. I rubed her up and down and shook her a little. she woke up enough to lick Nutrical off my finger, I gave her a teaspoon of banana yogurt. feeding her every 3 hours and I have been keeping her wrapped in a blanked or in a box on a heating pad all day. she seems fine now, but I'm worried sick, I've been reading all day about Hypoglygemia and wondered if others in this chat have had this happen and what they did, and if it continued to happen or was it a one time thing?? I've only had her a week and shes been so lively and eating so well all week. Please let me know:( |
How did she respond to the Nutrical and yogurt? Did the episode stop? Did you take her to the vet after it happened? Are her gums nice and pink now? |
she's her perky self today. and yes her gums were nice and pink about 10 mins after it happen, I didint take her to the vet because they are not open, but I will call them tomorrow. I've being very watchful of her, she hasnt been out of my sight since it happen |
It is so scary when they have an episode. My Cali had a few of those. The main thing to do is make sure she is eating frequently. I had to feed Cali every 4 hours even during the night for awhile. If she is not eating well make sure you give her the nutrical. Watch for any signs of lethargy and stumbling. Have your vet check her out as soon as possible too. |
If you ever have this happen again kyro syrup works faster than nutrical and is very safe I am a vet asst and we tell clients when this happens to use it keep putting it in there mouth til they respond It just works alot faster the nutrical is great just not as fast acting glad your pup is doing well Good luck.;) |
She's not eating as well as she should, I have been giving her what ever she will eat, but I fear I am creating a picky eater! but shes running and playing all over the place, in fact shes being quite sassy, and today she mastered our deck stairs (2 low steps) and she was so dang PROUD it was hillarious! Thank you so much for your tip, Karo surup is also alot cheeper then nutrical. |
Just thought I would put my 2 cents in. My vet told me to put the kayro syrup in their water. That way she is constantly getting some of the sugar. |

The vets diagnosed my little girl 5months just under 2 pounds with chronic hypoglycemia. What was everyone else's dogs symptoms? Because I think she has an underlying cause of hers that they cannot figure out. She ate boiled chicken today at 1pm I picked her up from my mothers at 9:30 pm and she threw up the chicken which still was not digested. Her gums stay grey even with the nutrical, honey, karo, peanut butter, pedilyte. She will not eat I have to force feed her science diet in a syringe. We go to the vet around once a week with a $100 vet bill and I really cannot afford it anymore, they need to figure out what is wrong with her! They though liver shunt, was wrong, though megaesophagus, wrong again. So their conclusion, chronic hypoglycemia. Everyone's input about symptoms would be greatly appreciated!!! |
how Awful, I'm so sorry to hear all your going through. feed her anything she will eat. I know with Abby, she didint want to eat anything! but shes doing fine now, I still feed her every 4-5 hours, chicken or beef and she likes banana yogurt. she will eat the all meat baby food and some of the dessert babyfood. I only give her a tablespoonful, shes eating her kibble inbetween. shes acting normal now, except she pee's in her sleep. when she's awake she never has accidents, she goes right to her wee wee pad box. but when shes in a deep sleep she wets herself :-(. I really hope your vet can figure it out, having the grey/white gums doesnt sound good at all! |
I've heard beef isn't good for yorkies--something about too high a fat content or something. |
