Concerned I came home today and Garett has had diarhea. Poor boy, he still managed to make it to the pee pad every time. The boys are so good at not going in my apartment except on the pads. I know it is Garett cause he has one pad that only he will use, Benni won't go near it. It looks like there may be some blood in it, cannot really tell. The boys have had all their shots, in fact had their boosters two months ago. He is acting fine, eating fine. Any advice. (Tried the pepto, did not help). The boys are decent size (about 8 pounds each). |
Blood in the stool can be a sign of parvo or coccidious. I would take him to the vet to be on the safe side. |
Vacinnations They have had all their shots, wouldn't that preclude the parvo? They are almost 18 months old. |
They can still get parvo even if they have had their shots. It could be something as small as constipation or worms but I would go to the vet to be on the safe side. |

How old is he? Did you change is food at all in the last few days? This happened to Trixie when I added wet food to her regular kibble because she was teething. When I changed her back to only kibble, it went away. But just to be on the safe side I would call the vet or go in. |
Thanks for the help. No, I did not change foods at all. The boys are not outside often and then only on the leash. I did not realize that their shots did not prevent parvo. |
I didnt realize it either untill my vet told me. The shot is a preventative and the chances of getting it are real low. |
Poor Garett I hope he is feeling better, Gucci had diareha today also, but no blood in stool. So I feed her rice and boiled chicken she is better tonight, she was laying down most of the day. I guess it was a bug of some sort...I will continue to feed her rice in the morning. I would check with vet. to make sure everything is fine. |
Take him to the vet to get tested. Could be just an upset stomach or it could be worse. Better safe than sorry. |
Yeah, with blood in the stool, I'd take him in. They get stomach upsets just like us, but the blood, I'd have it checked. Hope he's better soon. |
Vet visit I took Garett to the vet this morning. Nothing wrong internally, just his darn skin problem. I had taken him about six weeks ago for his skin (balding spot, itchy, hot to touch) and it went away but came back this week. They gave him a shot of antibiotics, cortisone and meds for the next two weeks, also a special shampoo (OMG $28 for 8 ounces, good thing I have no one to explain to for the money I spend on my boys). The Vet said that he felt the diarhea was due to the skin infection, they took a stool sample, no blood (really need to get new glasses). The funny thing, is my vet does not work on Saturday and her new young vet is named Dr. Aspirin, I swear it, I about cracked up. Anyhow, back to the vet next week. You know I started to think about when Gar developed skin problems and he never had them until about 3 months ago, and that was just about the time I won all that doggie stuff in a rescue raffle and one of the things I won was a large bag of Pro Plan dry food. I am not saying that is what caused the problem, but we went to Petsmart after the vet, and we are going back on Eukanaba, we never had any skin problems when we were on the lamb and rice mixed with the Natural Balance lamb and rice roll. It cannot hurt to put them back on it and see what happens. Thanks for all your support, appreciate it. |
