I have used pepto bismol on chester before, they tend to heve sensitive tummys, especially when they are young some more than others. A food change if you try another food change it over a week to even 10 days, a quarter of the new food, and then half and then three quarters. and then totally new food. A new food would be better, solid gold which chester does well on, wellness, natural balance, merrick, innova are a few of the good ones, depending on what if avaliable to you |
you are being a good mommy, when they are hungry they will eat, the chicken and rice is good for them a bland diet, the flagyl works well, chester has done that as well |
We feed Nature's Variety Prairie Chicken & Brown Rice dry dog food. We started using this food upon a recommendation from someone very knowledgeable about dog food and nutrition. We have 5 dogs and our Yorkie puppy would not eat her puppy food. We tried several different ones and she would only eat what the other dogs ate. That's when we switched to the Nature's Variety because it is a very good all life stages food and the kibble isn't too big. My dogs love it and are doing well on it. We didn't have any issues with the transition either, which was pretty much cold turkey. You can give this a try if you have it available in your area. You can go on their website naturesvariety.com and find a retailer in your area if there is one. They also offer a buy a bag and get a free bag coupon at www.naturesvariety.com/tryit. There are also many good puppy foods. As mentioned by some others, you can get some decent foods at Petco, or your best bet is probably a small independent pet food boutique store. |
Hello everyone, Polo is doing a lot better and is enjoying his bland diet. He has not had a bowel movement and I am wanting to know is this normal after bad diarrhea? When they did the Parvo test via his bum :( could that have hurt him down there? |

However now your pup is constipated...quite the opposite of before huh? LOL Are you still giving the flagyl? if you are you need to stop giving it now because he hasn't had a bowel movement for a while. Also the chicken can be constipating. Did you start transitioning his new diet in the chicken yet? |

I'm sorry your baby went thru such a bad time. My suggestion is to keep him on "real" food, and this is why: Dead Cats And Dogs Used To Make Pet Food Closer Look At A Rendering Plant The Dark Side of Recycling I would also suggest buying the book by Ann N. Martin titled, FOODS PETS DIE FOR. |

I don't know if the vet told you this but the flagyl binds them up so if they don't poop for a day after the diarrhea clears up you should stop giving it. |

:D:D He pooped!!! :animal36 I never thought I would be so happy to say but he pooped!! I ended up getting him Nature's Recipe from Petsmart. I got him the puppy blend. It got an "A" on the kibble grade chart in the other forum so I picked it. It said no beef, corn, or wheat. No by-products or fillers. No artificial preservatives so I thought it was a good choice |

Nature's Recipe is an ok food. better then caesars and Iams in my opinion but there are still other foods that are better then it. its nice that it has a meat meal as its first ingredient but the next 3 are grains so they basically outweigh the meat in the food. The meats and grains are of good quality but there is a great grain percentage in the food then meat. |
