Help!!!!weird cough :animal-paMy lil Chanel is 6 months and at times she get this cough likeif she is chocking on hair balls...and it looks like she is gasping for air...i hate seeing her like this when it is happening, when she gets excited or when she eats to fast. i took her to the vet and he said "head cold",and gave me some antibiotics and gave her a shot. but she still does this, I told him I think its tracheal collapse, he said no. Does anyone know whats wrong with my baby? |
If hes looked at her and said its not collapsed trachea its probably reverse sneezing. Mine do it when they are excited also> Reverse sneezing is harmless |

Thank you Thank you for that video of the different sounds of the goose cough...it really helped me.. |
Probably reverse sneeze which sounds worse than it is. Mine get that a lot. |
My 2 babies cough a lot like this but my vet tells me it is nothing to worry about and it is very common with yorkies. He has a 10 year old yorkie that does this. |
I agree with everyone above that it sounds like the reverse sneezing. Wookie gets it when he eats too fast or gets excited as well. I freaked out about it a lot at first (still do sometimes), but I keep gettin assured that it is common for yorkies and it is just something you have to keep an eye on through the years (I freak out about collapsed trachea too, still to this day!) He did it more when he was very little like your baby, but as he has gotten older he only does it in spurts. Will go for a long time without doing it, then will do it a lot, then stop again. Ask your vet about the possiblity of reverse sneezing, not a head cold, and see what he/she says. |
Thank you every reply!!!!! THANKS EVERYONE !!! FOR REPLYING TO MY QUESTION....ABOUT MY SWEET BABY.:animal-pa |
cough thanks for posting videos on the different coughs. after watching the videos, my little webster probably has kennel cough. he will be 3 months old on 08/04 and i have him for about two weeks now. i have had him to the vet 2x and today she said that she still suspects kennel cough, but possibiltiy of collasped trachea. i have to take him back to the vet in a week. he is a little bundle of energy, plays and eats well but i hate when he coughs like that. he is 3lbs3oz. i just love him to pieces. he loves playing with my two golden girls and they are great with him. i get so much information on YT. never had a yorkie before so im really glad i found this forum. |
oh good glad that helped -- i put those together so people could differentiate real easy as there is a definite difference. I hope it is just kennel cough as that is much easier than CT - they can xray the trachea to see if collapsed but if not honking like video you should be ok |
