Little black worms http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._7561394_n.jpg My gf's yorkie (tigger) - see pic, is scratching himself a lot recently so she dug around his skin and found a few little worm look alikes. I haven't seen it yet but she described them to be very tiny and black and when she killed it, blood came out. Does anyone know what this could be? Tigger normally doesn't like showers but he stood still for his wash last night and a flea/tick/lice shampoo was used. He didn't scratch himself as much the same night but she found another wormy on him again this morning. Should we bring him to the vet? Thanks in advance. |
I never heard of anything like this before... i hope someone else here can help you out... If it is something that can harm the humans i guess would be good to consult the vet just to be sure of how to take care of it. Could you call the vet's office tomorrow? They may have a great answer just over the phone... Good luck !! |
Could it be flea larvae? this is the pic I found. I hope that everything works out for him. I would probably take him to the vet to find out what they are for sure. http://static.newworldencyclopedia.o...Flea_Larva.jpg |
Take him to the vet and please give us an update. |
oh yes, the vet immediately, please let us know, please |
I just looked all over the internet and there are stories about those little black worms. They are indeed flea larvae, tiny small black, moving. Which means the puppy is truly infected. Be careful of eyes but give the dog a bath in Dawn dish detergent. Leave on a few minutes and make sure you rinse rinse rinse. Make sure you use Dawn, nothing else right now. Now that's the easy part. Will they come back? Yes because you now have fleas throughout your house laying flea larvae. Bedding needs to be washed. And you and pooch need to bomb the house and get out for a few hours. I would pick a day where you can both wash the dog and get out of the house when you bomb. To wash the pooch and wait a week before flea bombing would be senseless as it gives time for the fleas to jump right back on the dog. Also bring stool sample to vet. As a result of all the flea bites and larvae, she may now have worms. Yup fleas can transmit this. Good luck, a lot of work needs to be done. Also check the ears for mites as well. Hope this helps. |

We bought a bottle of shampoo for ticks/lice/fleas and used that on him. My GF also said that she saw the black worm moving around and it could actually jump around. When she caught one of them, she put it on the table and it actually jumped around a bit. |

As Ladymon suggested with the flea preventatives:thumbup: it would be a good idea to make sure their not in your home or yard. |
could also use capstar. |
Dawn works wonders to keep fleas away!! I can vouch for this. I have Bullies outside and we ONLY use Dawn for them for the last 6 years and they have NEVER (Knock on Wood) Had a flea on their bodies. I would wash the pup again with the DAWN as suggested and BOMB the house.. and wash bedding etc. If you do all this right the first time and follow up with "revolution" (it's only $12 for a monthly dose) then you should be flea free hopefully forever. For Gucci we use Pet Head shampoo only but he is also on Revolution so he doesn't really need much else. Hope this helps. |
I Have heard of a lot of people having success stories with the DAWN soap... Let us know how it ends. |
