Poison Ivy or Poison Oak I think Sully has Poison Ivy or Poison Oak. We're going to the vet tomorrow to have it checked out. I didn't think dogs could catch it - but I was wondering if anyone has ever had this type of thing happen? About a week ago I noticed a few small bumps under his front armpit. I thought maybe a mosquito got him...but a couple of days later there were a few more. Now they have spread down his leg. I thought maybe fleas at first, but they don't look like flea bites. The rash type bumps are staying right on that right front armpit and leg and the top of each bump has a little "water type" bubble on it, some of them have popped and are crusted over and some are not. Anyone? |

Poor baby, is she scratching? I didn't think dogs could pick up poison ivy or oak but who knows. I did know of someone who got it from petting their dog. It came from it's coat having played in the yard. It sure sounds like it could be. I hope not because the itching is so bad. What are you putting on it? |

I didnt think they could get it but I googled it and a vet said they could but it would most likely be on their underside where there wasnt hair or fur. So it could be poison ivy. Mites and other things cause bumps and spread also so its good your going to a vet |

I'm not putting anything on it. DH said to leave it alone until we see the vet - I was thinking about Calomine Lotion, but didn't want to risk it. He can't scratch it cause it's under his armpit - I don't think he can get to it. He is however occasionally shaking his head as if some imaginary mosquito is buzzing around him. I checked his ears and there's nothing there - no discharge, looks clean. He did just finish taking a 21 day prescription of Amoxicillin for Lyme Disease....I wonder if that has anything to do with it. |

Oh Boy It's neither Poison Ivy or Poison Oak. It's just some type of rash that may or may not be caused by food or maybe his shampoo. He also has an ear infection and his anal glands are infected AGAIN! Doc gave him a stronger antibiotic via a shot, plus another shot for the itching. They 'deep cleaned' his ears and I have to put these drops in twice a day for 7 days. He also gave me a special shampoo. $127 dollars later - I got a furbutt that's feeling better but has a greasy head from the drops. They also told me to only bath him once every 6 weeks! I'm like are you kidding me? He stinks after a week and his hair gets all oogy boogy. I usually bath him once a week and I'm probably going to go to every other week - but I can't see letting him go for 6 weeks. |
